Need help!!! working on this right now
!! bought a fiberglass hood and airgrabber setup for my 71 runner - just having some fitment issues maybe the board can answer - question does the airgrabber fit snug against the hood or is there a gap? I'll let pics show what i'm asking - i have about a 1/2"; gap on the backside of the grabber:

That's not right. Either the hood is incorrectly molded or the bubble is...

Yes. Hard to tell from pics, but if hood fits correctly on car, hood is probably correctly curved.
Bubble needs to sit flush, or as flush as possible.

My hood and bubble are fiberglass also. Bubble fits flush in center rear and has a gap of about 1/8" at the rear corners - not a perfect fit, but since the bubble is black, it's not too noticeable.

Since the bubble is fiberglass, I used long set screws threaded into the "pads" molded into the underside of the bubble, so I wouldn't have to screw and unscrew bolts/screws into the bubble if/when I put it on/remove it. THe set screws, IIRC, are 1/4" diameter, perhaps 1" or 1-1/4" long or so, screwed into the pads on the bubble with a little bit of glue or epoxy, so they're not coming out or pulling out (hopefully).

I got the set screws from TacomaScrew (since they weren't far from where I lived at the time), but you may be able to find them at a decent auto parts place.

Good luck with it.

The four stud bosses along the rear of the bubble are designed to drop into larger holes in the hood and secured with bell nuts. The bubble you have appears to be a reproduction with the boss molded differently than the original and may require a larger than original hole.

A few years back someone posted a substitute for the cupped washer/nut, I should have saved it, the cupped washer was very close, not exact but close enough that most folks wouldn't notice & instead of $15 per nut/washer it was $15 for enough to do the whole hood... Anyone else recall the source?

The article calls the substitute material a "sweat plumbing nipple." It is actually a basic 1/2 copper coupling.

Not the one I was thinking of but certainly another option... Sorry I'm to cheap to give $15 each for a cupped washer/nut unless I'm working on a Hemi car...

I think there are several people that sell the Bell Nuts. But only one I know of though is R/T Specialties,in the collectors guide, just don't expect much in the way of service though.I think there are two different sizes. One for the bubble and smaller ones for the scoop henge.Don't try to be cheap this is one of those things I think, where factory is the best bet.Is that a repo or factory? Mine sits flush.Good luck.

Some guy in Minnesota. I don't think he's doing it anymore. When I bought the hood, it took him 9 months to get it to me.

That was probably 8 years ago...
