I have a basically stock 76 360. Just freshened it up with new rings, bearings, valve job. Stock heads with 1.88 intake valves. I bought a Sealed Power cam kit with matching springs. Cam is 214/224 dur @ .050, .443/.465 lift int/ex. Stock spreadbore intake with 650 Holley, headers, 3.91 gears in a short wide box pickup. Is this too much cam for what I have or should it run decent? I thought it was a fairly mild cam, but I realize this is a low compression engine. I want a little more zip than stock, but can't afford new pistons at the moment. K-B 107's are in the future. Any thoughts and input would be appreciated.

With those gears you should be okay IMO.

Run the thin MP head gaskets and mill the heads before you put it together, you'll be glad you did.

That cam isn't a bad choice. The stock 340 cam from 1970 has similar specs. The gearing sounds great too. I didn't see a transmission listed, but if it is a 727, maybe consider using a higher stall converter. It likely has a 12 inch unit that stalls at 1200 rpms. An 11 inch unit from a 318 truck will have higher stall, but you will need to have the 360 spec balance weight added to it. A competent transmission shop can help you there. Sounds like you'll have a fun ride!

I ran a reringed long block 360 that I did a little bowl clean up on the heads, a comp XE262, eddie 600 carb, eddie air gap, and headers in a 4000lb 5th ave, with a MP 166K converter, 27" tires and 3.55's. the car ran dang hard, idled with about 16-17" vacuum in park, 12-13 in gear, and would keep up with an 05-07 5.7L 300C AWD from a low speed roll.

Anybody have a part# for the MP thin head gaskets? Yeah, I forgot to mention the 727. It's been rebuilt with a mild shift kit. Thanks.

Actually, the 360 is going to replace the 318 that's in my 78 pickup now. I won't know until I yank the engine, but is it possible that it has the higher stall convertor already in it? How do I ID the convertor when I get it out?
