At the recently attended racers banquet we were told the upgrades are on schedule for the 2012 race season. Some of the upgrades are new and better bleachers with expanded seating. 2 more street class lanes, 2 more mod and top lanes, new improved catch fence at the end of the track, electric in the pits, and grinding the track. Our racers meeting will be at the track this coming Sunday (3-25-12). A new bathroom will be built in the upper staging lanes and showers are to be installed at a later date. Lots of pictures are included in the link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/pghracewaypark/6976802497/in/set-72157628483222501/

It's come a long way from the old Keystone days, eh John?
Though, gotta tell you, I had a lot of great times up there back in the day....

Steve, my back in the day is really only from the mid 90s, but I feel like you do on both. My buddies and I had a lot of fun, not knowing what the heck we were doing, til we got some more experience on prepping the cars, dialing them in, etc. I really do appreciate the work the Gentiles did to keep it open, so first of, that we didn't lose the strip, and second, that the Tedescos could make it into the track it is now, and still getting better.

Chuck, never tell me Glen's is open. Now I have to take a road trip. Boy the track is really taking advantage of the great weather. Can't wait till Sunday to check it out. Thanks for the link.

I loved the old days too Steve an often think that if it wasn't for Mike and Phillis Gentile keeping the gates open it could have been long gone. I wouldn't want to give up what we have now but it sure was nice knowing not only about every racers name but also their wife and kids and what kind, year, and color of their car. I'm about ready for my yearly drive up to the old Nu-Be drag strip for my little walk on the old grounds. One of these days I may hook up a scanner and scan some of my 30 year old track pictures.
i used to live at nu-be ! quite the place ! were you there for the demise of the "dancing bear" ?

I heard the story. The story I got is that the driver was out of the car, dazed, laying in the grass, and everybody just ran past him to look at the wrecked Colt!! He was just laying there and no one stopped to see how he was doing! It was quite a place.

pretty much how it was ! brian [a very close friend] was lucky and when i got to him, he was concerned about finding his sunglasses ! we never did find 'em ! the car was a write-off, but the drivetrain wasn't hurt. it ended up in a duster, eventually going low 10's. brian is kinda tall.....pic at the local hospital. i took him for a checkup, and he was sore for a few days.
