OK...who can tell me that these three dimples are for? What plant, what dates were they used? Any info will help. Some cars have them and some don't.....whats up!!

The three dimples are located on the passengers side, straight up from the blower motor on the cowl.

No exact dates but generally speaking early production 1970 cars won't have them, later cars will, the NOX requirement started in 1971 so only later 70's showed the demples (they were getting ready for 71 early on, all plants).

Hi Scott, Hope all is well.

The Hemi car picture I posted had a date of 808 and there are no dimples. I have been looking and many cars recently and I can't find and clear cut date on when these were used.

Here's the firewall on my '71 BH23C1B "pilot" car - it appears to have been built in April '70. (not sure if it had "dimples")

It likely did Dan, that NOX valve same style as my 71 Duster came with (October, 02 1970 SPD)

As I mentioned, it was random in 1970, some had them, some did not, early cars less likely, later cars more likely but not definative. They used parts with no real inventory control back then, no "first in first out" as we commonly see today, it was not a mandated 1970 model year change, just a part that changed during 1970 production. Same applies to other 1970 sheet metal stampings like inner fenders and hoods with and without crush zones.

When do they start production on the next model year?
My 71 challenger (with dimples) was built in sept of 70. I thought that was an early build for a 71.

2016 Diesel Ram 3500 Mason Dump
1971 Challenger
2013 Jeep Wrangler
1979 Dodge Ram Power Wagon 400 Mini Pumper
My other car is a Fire Truck.

I'm the first to believe this....nothing was set in stone. but when you find something out of the norm I have to start thinking. I saw a car that I believe is an early car and it HAS the dimples. It is a Hamtramck built car.....can this be??

Since there was no "norm" on this topic (known cutoff dates etc.)other than generization there's really nothing out of the "norm" to be noticed, only a variable.

.... but who are we not to ask question? I think this could be an interesting topic. Lets see where it goes.

I was talking to GG one day while we were looking at my car (before it was restored) and he even noticed that I had a "early firewall". My car was as original as can be so he noted it and that was that. Now I came across a car and it is the other way....early car with a late firewall. How can this be??
