I'm thinking about switching from my current setup of MT 28x10.5-15 slicks on an 8" rim with a 4.5" back spacing to MT ET Street Radials. I'm trying to figure out the best comparable size combination and get the most meat on the ground and still clear the wheel well and leaf springs.

Who else is running MT ET Street Radials on a 69 B-Body and what is largest size tire and wheel you can safely fit under stock dimensioned B body? Please include your backspacing if you know it. Thanks.

I'm running Hoosier 275/60/15's drag radials. I think a 295/50 should fit on that rim, 9" would be better thou. You have plenty or tire room, no worries. 4.5 is standard I wouldn't go too much more than 5" back space. A 15x10 w/ 4.5 BS should fit. I just picked up a set of 15x9 welds and they look like they have plenty of front space.

I'm running the 295/65-15 on my 69 Road Runner. Stock spring location, and stock wheel tub. The wheels are 10 wide steelies, with 5.5 backspace. I did have to roll the wheel lip, which then needed body work to correct some waviness. There is very minor rubbing against the spring, the degree of which probably varies from car to car. Hooks like a champ

I have 295/65 15's on 15x8 wheels with 4.5" back spacing on my 69 Satellite. Everything is stock and I do have SS springs. I get a small amount of rub when turning sharply up inside the wheel well. They fit pretty good in my opinion.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback.

I did contact M/T tech support and asked for a comparison between the ET Drag Slick 28x10.5-15 to the ET Street radial 275/60R15. They told me the radial is wider by .5" but has less tread on the ground 10" to 9.5". He thought the radial was the way to go for an automatic car. The M/T tech said, and I quote, "The radial the way it is wrapped and designed with the stiffness of it works great with an automatic as and automatic car doesn't hit a tire like a manual so a stiff constructed tire is great for a automatic. The manual tranny needs a tire for forgiveness with the wrinkle sidewall because when a manual transfers weight it hits the tire harder and need a wrinkle sidewall to absorb some of the shock."

So what I'm hearing from you guys is I can go with the 295 vs the 275, with a 4.5 backspace and I might get a little rubbing on the wheelwell. I also might have to massage some things for a little extra clearance if it rubs - this sounds like it really depends on how the 295s fit on any particular B body.

Thanks again.

If you go with the 295 I wouldn't go any wider than an 8" wheel. I think for every .5" of rim width, the sectional increase by .2" if I remember that correctly.
