is this the fix I'm looking for?
http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/amp-gauges.shtml
Yep...That will do the trick. Best move I have made on all my MOPARS....
I believe the OP is trying to go back to a factory ammeter. And unless I'm mistaken, his factory ammeter will not work with the wiring conversion.

What year did Ma decide to start using a more reliable electrical setup and get rid of the ammeter altogether?
I "think" ...... late 1970's ???? ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif)

I'm recently trying to get my interior gauges back to working and looking stock and one of the issues is my ammeter. I put a 90amp alternator in years ago and fried my stock ammeter(it only reads 40 amps) in the instrument cluster so i had to put an aftermarket gauge in and mount it on my lower dash. I would like to get rid of this aftermarket gauge and wire back into my stock gauge(I have a replacement ammeter from another cluster reads 40amps also)but keep the 90amp alternator what options do I have?
Why mess with the amp guage.. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif)
RedLine Guages can deliver a voltmeter that looks stock and drops rite in.. Get rid of all the negatives, EZ bolt-in.

That's the fix I used. I had the stock ammeter converted to a voltmeter... and ran the 6 guage power wire for the 100A alternator directly to the fender relay. The voltmeter is fed by the normal power supply to the panel. The whole setup works well.

replace the gauge. clean all connections. Nacho's simple bulkhead bypass (simple, takes 2 wires). Feed the high current items from the eng/alt side with relays. Strive to keep the ammeter needle as close to 12 o'clock as possible. The alt could have 200 amp capacity but if it ain't flowing thru the bulkhead/ammeter & is feeding the draws directly via relays right at the alt there wont be a prob & you'll have achieved your goal of renewing the stock ammeter & it'll serve it's purpose/read correctly which is the minor amt of current flowing in/out of the battery for normal draws
Anyone have a link to Nachos conversion? Prob pretty much the same as the link I have above but I would still like to read it.

I'm assuming also that the volt meter conversion from redline still requires the shunt is this correct?
No, shunts are used on Ammeters (some, not all). Voltmeters do not use them

Anyone have a pic of the Redline voltmeter in an e-body? What do they charge for the conversion, just need the gauge not whole cluster redone.
They are in SoCal. Here is their #.. 661.259.8891 Talk to Shannon..
