I am installing the SSBC Rear Disc Brake Kit #A155 on an 8 3/4 rear that came out of a 70 Charger. I have everything assembled and the inside of the rotor hits the inside of the bracket that holds the caliper.

The kit came with a 3/4" machined spacer and SSBC provided a pack of .025 shims that are supposed to be used to center the bracket over the rotor. It seems that the brackets need to be spaced back at least another 1/4" in order to center the bracket.

I can't imagine where messed up but something must be wrong. to be off by 1/4". I bought the kit back in 2001 and not sure if it has been revised by SSBC since then.

These pics are with additional washers that I added to try to get the clearance.

If I remember right, doesn't that kit require the "green" axle bearings?

The kit did not specify green bearings. I had to grind the pass side brackets to clear the adjuster but it fit fine.

You do not need GREEN bearing but i had them put on previously and they worked fine with the conversion. We also tossed the four thin shims needed for one larger shim. That just seemed to be a better way to go.

MidPenMopar,
I got your PM and I did check out your thread, it seems that centering rthe caliper bracke is an issue with this kit.

Since my kit is off by about 1/4 inch and I would be more comfortable replacing the 3/4" spacer that came with a single 1" spacer rather stacking up a bunch of washers (assuming I could find washers that were all the same thickness) then using the shims to fine tune from there. Of course the bolts that hold the brackets are now too short for and also need to be replaced.

Yep you need to replace the bolts with longer ones after you put on the shims and it's always better to go with one thicker shim than a bunch of smaller ones.

MidPenMopar,
That is one nice car!!!!

I called SSBC they explained what we already know.......production tolerances were all over the place on these cars. They are sending me 8 1" thick spacers to replace the 3/4" ones that came in the kit.
I got through to SSBS on the phone quickly, they were knowledgeable about the product and very cooperative.
With any luck I will be able to finish it up over the weekend.

Great news!! Let me know how it turns out and if you have any issues with stopping power.

You can see my own thread in the General section too.

AMAZING , customer service , if this were a certain CCJ engine parts supplier you would have been told to pound sand up your backside because your 45 day warranty had expired ...
