i hav an 05 neon and the transmission solenoid leaks, i think i was told that when i got the car a few years ago. i was wondering since i am pulling the motor now anyway, what happens if the soleniod goes bad? can it do transmission damage?

I have seen alot of them leak over the years. You have to replace it. It will come with a new gasket and if it has the plate between the solenoid pack and the trans case you just throw the plate away as you dont use it with the newer solenoid packs. Ron

it can throw you neon in limp mode.. so u should fix it now..

it's basically you're valve body. if something fails. it will go into limp mode.which means you'll have 2nd gear only.they do go bad often.

the last time I drove the neon it only had 1 gear so I think its finally time to change the solenoid pack.
is this a fairly simple job? it looks like it should not be too difficult.

I've never done one but I assume its fairly simple. My stepson had it done and was only charged $50 by a trans shop

just an update. I changed the solenoid and it was super easy to get to , I didn't even have to jack the car up.
that was all that was wrong and it shifts fine now.
