I'm trying to figure out what differences (if any) there are between what is labeled as a 'remanufactured' steering box vs a 'rebuilt' box.

I want to replace the manual steering box in my 65 B-body and have found a variance in price and was wondering if this is just a result of volume or the quality of the box.

For instance, Firm Feel lists a rebuilt 24:1 manual box for $299, plus a $200 core charge.

Steer and Gear lists the same thing for $275 plus a $175 core charge

Places such as carsteering.com and other online sources list it for around $215 plus $100 core charge, which is alot less than Firm Feel and Steer and Gear.

I believe that what you would get from Firm Feel or Steer and Gear are considered rebuilt.

I am curious to know what would be the difference with a box from someplace like carsteering.com (remanfactured) vs. Firm Feel/Steer and Gear.

Those are interchangeable terms with no "legal" meaning. You and I may have our own definitions but others are free to market with their own.

Firm Feel is a pretty respected company, for what its worth.

I would question exactly what the yall do , I bought a rebuilt box for a durango , it was HORRIBLE , Cardone rebuild.

But as said ... rebuilt , reman'd , ... 220 , 221 ... whatever it takes ...

OT might consider a 20:1 box or worm gear internals that MP (& others) offered & rebuild yours for a step up as opposed to a rebuild to just remove slop. Not sure about street diff but going from a 24:1 to 16:1 manual on a circle track A/E body was night and day difference for the better
