While looking for a tranny for the wife's Satellite, I found a complete 400/727 combo out of a 78 pickup. The tranny appears to be a typical 727 (not the short one) but has a fixed yoke on the end. I was told the yoke could be removed, and a slip yoke could be put over the output shaft, like a car tranny. Does anybody have any experience with these? It will be going in a 73 Satellite with a 440. Thanks in advance. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I think I will take savoy64's advise, and try to do one myself. I have two 727s in unknown condition. One is from a 70 coronet, and one is a shorty out of a MH. Is it possible to build a beefy one out of the two?

I believe the tailshaft has to come out from the inside so now would be a perfect time to do that, while you're rebuilding it anyway.
I think you made a typo. The Tailshaft comes off without disassembling the trans but the output shaft has a snap ring deep inside holding it to the planetaries and it is a complete tear down to swap that.
Still they are easy to rebuild.

I will be getting them out of storage tomorrow. I will post the numbers. I know one is from a '70 Coronet with a 2bbl 383, and the other is from a 440 powered Motorhome. But I'm not sure of the year.

besides the difference in tail shaft length the MH trans should have a 4 planetary gear set. The other tranny should have a 3 planetary gear set..
I am truckless..

I checked the car tranny, which sounds right. But, the shorty has pk3893765 5058 3275. Can anybody tell me what it is? Thanks for all the advise.
