I have a 2006 ram 1500 with the 4.7 liter V8 and manual 6 speed trany. If any one has any ideas on what the cause could be

I had a 2006 Ram 4wd, but mine was the Hemi auto. Mine never whined, but it made a clicking sound when engaging and disengaging. Maybe in your case the internal slider isnt fully engaging the low range and you are running only partially engaged? Is your 4wd engaged by a knob below and to the left of the radio?
