Hi Everyone,

I have a 1972 Road Runner with a 400 that needs the dipstick tube replaced. The original had two bends in it with a tab that is bolted to the engine mount. The replacement has one bend it with a tab that is bolted to the engine mount. Here's a link to Rick Ehrenberg's auction showing a picture of the replacement.

Ehrenberg's Auction

The engine is in the car and I tried installing the replacement but ended up damaging it so now I have another one on the way. I'll be filing down the part of the tube that fits into the block but I think the bolt that comes from the engine mount will still be a problem since it's in the direct path of the tube. This bolt is pressed into the mount, it can't be removed and put back when the tube is installed.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how they handled this?

Thanks,

Mike.

Pretty common to have to file or cut down the portion of the aftermarket tube that fits in to the block for the correct fit. The bolt is not pressed into the motor mount bracket, may need to loosen the other bolts to get the bolt, that secures the tube, out in order to fit the tube.

I made this out of 3/8" pipe. Goes over the D/S tube to drive it into the block.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the pictures. The bolt I'm referring to is the top one in the motor mount that your dipstick tube's bracket is attached to. I thought it was pressed in but will look again tonight.

Thanks for the tip Mark about the 3/8 pipe piece. I may have to make something similar.

Mike.

Agree the motor mount bolt will come out... mine does. Also, its common to need to sand down the part that goes in the block. For pressing it in the pipe tool looks good. A 3/8" crows foot wrench on a long socket extension works well also.

On mine, I had to "adjust" the mounting tab for the motor mount bolt but it all went together.

Make sure the old one came out in one piece.

Very common for the tip to break off in the block.
