There is no one piece gasket for the older LA engines. For the 318/340 were stuck using the craptastic cork/rubber 4 piece deal. If running a 360 you can modify and use the newer magnum 360 oil pan & gasket on your older 360 LA but not the smaller motors ? I spent the last hour searching on this and I do feel guilty for asking this question but I am lost and confused when trying to understand whats being said in a thread. 3 different conversations going on and its hard to keep track of what all is being said works with what combination of pans/gaskets/motors. Sort of getting the idea that us 318/340 guys are out of luck on this upgrade ?

I am a 2.2 FWD guy and my knowledge is extensive on those powerplants and all the stupid trivia that goes along with them. Older stuff I'm still filling in the holes. So thank you for holding the flames back until next time.

The guys who know things on this board are largely all asleep by now.

Some questions get quick responses, others... not so much!
I'll do what I can. In most cases, the cork that you cuss at is actually a decent gasket. What contributes to its failure? OVERtightened bolts, bent oil pan gasket rails and excessive RTV sealant. When I rebuild an engine and use an old pan, I always use a straightedge to check integrity of the pan rail. Valve covers are no different. The mounting holes are often pushed inward, requiring a few taps with the FORD tools to drive them flat again. I just did an oil pan gasket in a 440 in a truck. I wiped a very thin smear of Mopar RTV on the pan rail, set the gasket then set the pan on a table to press the gasket flat overnight. It sealed up like factory stock, maybe even better than. Small blocks have a different design, I'm aware. They tend to leak at the corners. A small dab of RTV during install is preventative insurance there.
I LIKE your screen name... Pretty cool.

So with the matching 360 oil pan that will work ?

Oil pan isnt the nicest but it is flat, straight and true along the edges. I have taken a socket & hammer and redone each bolt hole if it was pulled in. Cant say it didnt hurt but I dont think it really was the root cause. One of the issues I have had with presticking the cork gaskets is they will get torn up when reinstalling the pan. In the Van chassis atleast it is a very tight fit between the oil pan, crossmember and bellhousing (727). So after dropping the bolts and cracking the pan loose and pulling the rear of the pan down to work it out the front bottom of the pan is already dragging on the cross member and the front top end of the pan is dragging along the block rails for a few inches. Go to reinstall and that cork gasket gets torn up during the dragging. Maybe some fresh motor mounts would be the cure here ? God knows there probably original and with all the oil this thing has leaked for years they are probably due for replacement.

Gave this one more try. Found some permatex gasket spray adhesive/sealer. odor was like copper spray a gasket but the stuff was red. That took alot of the PITA factor of dealing with the cork out. Got a new spectra premium oil pan from the store and it was a very nice piece but was not made properly. Corner stampings for the rubber end caps were totally incorrect and the holes for the pull through locking/locating nipples were off by a mile. Cleaned up the original pan and put it back on. Took that POS back to the store complete with wet rtv and gaskets still stuck to it and got a refund.

I was hoping to use a spectra premium pan on a few other builds but this has me second guessing how well their stuff is going to fit. Side by side comparison the differences were night and day.
