I'm having trouble with my Carter 750 ('70 Bee 383). Off the line I get hesitation and an air pop noise coming from the carb but runs ok when driving at normal speed. I'm debating to go with a thunder series avs 650, or a holley?? or should I get my carb rebuilt. I've owned many mopars, big blocks, but allways had carb issues. Is it time to upgrade to a newer carb, better tech

Yes need an adequate pump shot; amt/duration. Is your initial in the ballpark along w pri jetting/float levels. No vac leaks?

live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth

I would guess that you could get your existing carb rebuilt and calibrated by a shop and not have to jack with the linkage, etc. to make a Holley work. If you do move over to a Holley 750 style carb I'd recommend the Quickfuel Slayer 750 Vac. Secondary. They are around $300 and you could have a shop dial it in for you. We have a 750 Carter on the '66 Coronet and it works great for it's intended purpose.

buy a used 750DP rebuild it and never look back. A 750DP w/ 31 squirters, 72/76 jets, 6.5PV would really wake your car up. Of you could go w/ an old school 750 vaccuum too.

i have used new holleys on all my builds and have never had a problem. i have only had one carb problem ever and it was with a rebuilt thermoquad. i was about 200 miles from home and had carb problems that almost insinerated my 70 coronet. luckily i had a few gallons of water on hand to put out the flames. i see that summit sells holley knock- offs under their name for a good price. if i were to buy a new carb i would go with one of these. there is a reason some carbs(and rebuild parts) have been discontinued and some have been copied.

Thanks for the feedback!
If I go with a new carb, what CFM, 650 or 750? Mechanical or vacumn?
My motor, 383, is stock but I have intentions of a slight upgrade like
mopar performance camshaft 484 lift and aftermarket cast iron heads.

hi
do like we are trying to tell you !

750 !!! i would use the vac one if it is primarily a street car ??

drop down one number in camshafts to the 280-474 and you will not be disipointed !

484 one too lumpy for the average beginner /tuning combo !

the 484 likes good compression, headers, 3000+ stall and 3.91+ to run right. If you go w/ a holley make sure you use like a 4.5 PV or close to it. Those cams do not pull great vaccuum.
