I noticed Summit had them on sale for $47 which only means one thing, they are discontinued. Summit confirmed that 33413/34413 (Classic's) & 33840/344840 are discontinued. When I got a rear set from summit 34840 this past Sunday there were only 18 left at Edelbrock. Hopefully a front set is coming.

Anybody else confirm these are out of production for good? Good news for Bilstein though.

didn't QA1 buy Edelbrock's suspension line?

Hmmm that might explain why Summit suggested a QA1 substitue..

I asked QA1 at SEMA.

QA1 bought the hard suspension line and equipment; control arms, frame connectors, etc.

The shock line and equiptment went to Eibach, IIRC. It was a spring company.

Good news
Those shocks do not perform well under duress.
They "porpoise" when hot just like kyb's
Way too much gas pressure.
A shock is a dampener not a suspension support for weak springs.

A set of their IAS shocks replaced the KYB shocks I had on the back of my car and the ride quality was greatly improved. This certainly sucks they sold off the line.

Tom, have you tested the e-shocks on a shock dyno? You seem to be down on them, though they weren't marketed as a race shock. I have them on my 68 Barracuda and they seemed quite good for a driver. No complaints with ride quality either -MP .920 bars and a 1" addco bar up front. Not an attack or rebuttal, just wondering about your dataset. Since they aren't around anymore this could be beating a dead horse, but I'm more interested in how to get results, then what the results are. Thanks, Steve

the set i had on my 69 r/t were awful. they had so much gas pressure they raised the back of the car. the car rode like i didn't have any suspension. the rubber bushings actually split! i sent them back and got my money back. my , good ridance.

I ordered a set of rears through Summit a few weeks ago. The other day I received only one shock. I called summit and was told that Edelbrock only had one in stock, so the shipped only one. Summit advised me that they are not discontinuing them, but Edelbrock has temporarily stopped making them.
It sounds like a money issue to me.

I ordered a set of General Grabber tires from discounttiredirect.com a month ago and they were the same situation. General tires had temporarily stopped making them and are on an atleast 2 month back order.

This is probably a good time to point out that even though we are all here to improve handling, a number of times our personal perspectives, experiences, and desires may cloud the issues or lead us to ask incorrect questions. A number of guys come on here asking what is the absolute best shock, knowing full well they only drive from the garage, to the show, to the cruise in, then home. Others answer back from the experience of high speed track manuevers under duress that stress parts to points many drivers have never performed in a new vehicle, never mind a classic.

Sometimes we all need to clarify what we're after or where we're coming from. Tom tends to come from the use it hard camp of first hand experience. Often times I see questions from the perspective of the use it occasioanlly and kindly group. The two often have divergent needs and expectations. Opinions on KYB and EBrock shocks tend to be the most common of these instances.

The shock dyno is a 3.4 mile road course called watkins glen and 20 years of running laps, 2x a year for 16 years and 1x yr the rest.

I chose the E shocks at the time over much more expensive QA1's. $$$$ In hindsight I should have just done the QA1's or if I wanted to be inexpensive a good set of mopar hd shocks.

The pressure in these shock is so high it raises the car. A shock is a dampening device not a substitute for weak springs or springs with a rate that is too low. When they get hot they porpoise and are unpredictable. It was hell on the track with these shocks. I went back to the track 2 months later with the QA1's as the only change and it was a rotating thru the turns fast automobile.

Remember it's street cars that get driven on the track, not race cars on the street. When you have a street car that does well on the road course you have a wonderful riding driving car that you can take anywhere and beat up other more expensive cars. Adjustable shocks let you soften the street ride and turn it up for playtime.

Thanks for the reply, Tom. Context is everything. Hard track use doesn't seem to be their intended use. "shocks are to dampen spring oscillations" is what I was taught so long ago and spring rate/load/intended usage all come into play. IIRC E-brock doesn't(didn't) recommend the shocks for use with spring rates 30% higher than stock- I couldn't find that, so my memory could be faulty... but I believe it came with the literature with the shocks. I'm curious to find put how they work with the 1.01" Just suspension bars I have on there now. If they don't play nice, then I'll step up to the Bilstiens or QA-1s.

Beeen considering QA1s on the front and some Bilsteins on the rear. Would that be stupid or would it be more productive the other way around? Anyway, anyone know what part# QA1 would be good for the front of my 72 Dart?

Mopar to the bone!!!
