it all confirms that map light can be used only with open door , but that makes no sense for me

Anyone having E-body with map light, how does it work in Your car?

Does anyone have a good picture of the 2 spade door jamb switch, mine appear to be missing one of the spade connectors.

BartekP,
Have you had the wires to the door jamb switches disconnected? I am trying to get a look at a switch to see if there is a right and wrong way two hook up the two wires.

The Map Light should work regardless of the door position, as long as the ignition switch is in the Run or Accessory position and the Map light switch is in the On position.

that would be nice, but doesn't correspond with wiring and diagrams

ign switch can supply only power wire, there is no ground wire switched by ignition, or maybe there is?

power wire for map light is pink - it has power non stop, regardless of ignition and door. the same wire works also for glove box light. - so the only possibility to switch it on is to supply ground to yellow wire
I can do it permanently by grounding it to the frame, or connecting to door switch - till now found no other option

I think the way is not important here, both connections are the same. When doors are closed,
wires (yellow and yellow w.tracer) are separated, when you open the door they are both connected to ground.
It makes me think - for what is it separated?
Maybe one of them should be also grounded with ignition? for example to make map light work.

I hope you guys can figure this out. I think I had the same problem a few years back on my 70 cuda and I gave up and just grounded the yellow to the dash frame. If it gets figured out maybe I can put mine together correctly.

I know the switch housing is supposed to be grounded, but that doesn't seem to have any effect on the operation of the switch.

Can anyone post pics of their freshly wired dash. Perhaps from left to right. It would make for an excellent visual reference (in general).

I think relatively close up pics would be very nice to see.

The dimmer switch also supplies a ground to all the interior lights (dome, courtesy and map).

I updated the wiring diagram.

I can only give you the same picture, mine is missing too.
There should be two male lugs on the switch.

I just found my Year One reproduction door switches. The pins are separated from each other by a plastic insulator and only connect together when the door is open and both go to ground.

I will have to get with Bill (gtx6970) and get a set of correct switches.

Here are my original broken switches.
It looks like the original switches didn't have a plastic blade between the tabs.

BartekP,

Good news:
The map light has two sources of chassis ground. The door jamb switches (door open) and the dash panel dimmer switch when it is in it's fully counterclockwise position. The dimmer switch picks up it's ground through it's housing.

If the map light only works with one of the doors open, one of these conditions exist concerning the dimmer switch.

1. The dimmer switch is in not turned all the way to the left.
2. The dimmer switch housing is not properly grounded.
3. Dirty or defective dimmer switch contact point.
4. Bad wiring connection.

Bad news:
The only time the Map light will work is when the dome and courtesy lamps, if you have them, are on.

Thanks Cudaized,
I had a feeling that the plastic separator blade wasn't on the original.

No problem.
Also, if you end up using those YO repros, be careful. The plunger side is to long for an E-Body.

I regards to that I believe the Chrysler Service parts are too long as well (and have the plastic insulator).

And both of the plungers look too long for 71-74 B Body too.

I think the length on those is self adjusting. It starts out to long, then when you close the door the first time, the plunger slides inside the nut further.

Has anyone had problems with functionality/fitment of repops?

The plastic divider between the male terminals is pointless because both terminals are either grounded or not at the same time.
