Bottom view of 70 & 71 headlight relays.

70 - Horn Relay Only
71 - Combination Horn Relay / Key-In Buzzer.

I don't get it
it is horn relay - not headlight relay, or is it both?

it is hard to find this out on wiring diagram

Bartosz,
Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. The relays I posted above, are horn relays. The 70 E-Bodies don't have headlight relays. Some of them do have headlight "delay" relays. The headlight delay relays are discussed earlier in this post.

That's weird for me, now it is clear why lot of E-body owners install headlamp relays on radiator support panel, I'll probably do the same

Next problem:
I have low fuel warning lamp, there is relay for it, one of the wires from it (d.blue) have angled round female ending like it should go to instrument panel fuel gauge, but there is another one that goes from sending unit with same ending, fuel gauge has one bolt connector per "side".
Shoud there be some coupler for these wires?

Your pic #1 is the AO1 steering column key illumination light after 1970... ..It can't be used with the correct 1970 AO1 turn signal/flasher switch....On your overhead console low fuel relay : Both blue wires will be connected to the fuel gauge...When using the relay, the black wire gets disconnected from the back of the gauge and is unused...The blue wire{relay} takes it's place...

I have original 70 (I think) key illumination - kind of plastic pipe.

I'll try to connect fuel gauge that way

Yesterday I powered up the wiring, and most of stuff that is already on place work without problems

Wiper motor (3 speed) has some problem, maybe wires in plug are put in wrong order, it stops when I switch them off, it should go back down and stop then. I'm also not sure, shouldn't it have intermittent function?
When I turn the switch a bit there is a click and motor starts to operate constantly, next 30deg or more nothing changes, then there is a point where I can feel that switch starts to turn bit harder and motor operates faster and faster to the end of switch movement, is it ok?
3 speed wipers have parking function? there is different motor arm without plastic round insert.
...
On wiring diagram I found two blue wires that should go to some A/C delay relay mounted close to blower resistor, but I have no wires like these in my harness, and no relay or a sign of it on heater box, what was it?

I have also map light question

map light is powered by pink wire and works with switched ground - yellow wire - but when I connect it to the bullet socket with two yellow wires like diagram says, then map light only works when I open the door - these yellow wires are switched to the ground by door switch, how do You connect it?

A few things on the vari-speed motor/switch...Check and confirm the wiring is correct if you suspect they somehow got switched around...Make sure your dash switch has a good ground for the testing or the motor won't operate correctly...Here's a previous thread with the wiper linkage info and numbers so you can check to see if you have the correct linkage.. link And lastely, take a moment to confirm that the wiper motor switch plate is in the correct tab for the parking assy...Here's a pic of the correct positions..

third (switch panel lamp) is it called AC panel lamp? or switch panel lamp? is there any other switch panel lamp?

I think that's called the heater lamp. It lights up the heater controls (or AC if you have that). If I remember correctly, it came standard on all the E bodies. (probably not on the rare heater delete cars though)

Yes, there are other switch panel lamps.

Pic #2 - Lamp and wire for dash switches, installs in dash panel that houses the (3) instrument cluster bulbs. (EDIT/ADDENDUM 4 BULBS IF YOU HAVE A RALLYE DASH)

Thanks, Now I see rectangular cutout with screw hole on side of light panel

This optional light is usually referred to as "Title Lamp" in factory literature.

Quote:

That panel has also three big "keyhole" shaped cutouts, what are these for?

The only thing that goes in that panel is the lights. (Note: the 70 challenger panel is slightly different than the one used on all the other E bodies.

any idea where can I find door ajar switches? ones that go on the backside of the door, I have just connectors with inch long plastic pins - kind of part of these switches

That's an extremely hard part to find. Most people are using metal replacements similar to the ones used at the front of the door.

It also can't be used with the correct 1970 steering column (unless you modify the column).

Hmmm... I don't have an assembled car here to look at right now, but I looked at a map light switch, and mine has a Z shaped grounding strap that grounds the switch housing to the metal dash frame. I'm thinking then that the ground would come through the yellow wire if the door was open, or through the dash frame/switch housing if the switch was ON?

Does it work properly if you ground the switch housing?

HEY GUYS... I GOT IN MY HANDS A NOS 2983696 relay if someone needs. I'm fixing a 70 Charger that I'm not sure if will need or even if this relay is used to 70 B bodies.

Check and confirm the wiring is correct

It works now, wiring was ok, it was a problem with spring contact in motor cam, it was open all the time and motor didn't have power to park

How should it be grounded? there are two tabs that hang free "in the air", one with heater lamp attached - has small screw hole at the end, second on the door side with 1/4" hole.
I checked and it had ground, but to make sure I added self made wire from one tab to dash frame

No, switch housing ground has nothing to do with its function, it has just two poles and they are connected or not depending on switch position (none of them is connected to housing), so ground can be taken only through yellow wire

I do not want to change wiring and ground it to das frame, it is not original and light can be easy switched on and forgotten - I would also need to change power wire to ignition switched one to make it safe.

When maplight works in E-body, anybody? it is weird to open the door to switch the lamp on- especially on the way

is there any ignition switched ground? don't think so

Glad to see you've got the wiper motor working..There should be a ground for the switch using one of the screws that hold the whole dash switch panel to the frame...Some guys have tried to work on their wiper motor with the switch panel hanging loose{and therefore ungrounded} off the dash frame...That's what I was refering to...
On the map light...I have the factory set-up on mine and the switch is a Two-way piece{front to back}...One setting will turn on the light at all times...The other position will activate the light when the door is opened...

I just don't know what are these free metal tabs for
Metal plate of the switch panel is mainly vertical plate holding switches, but on the bottom there are two horizontal stripes (metal), one of them holds heater light, but is longer than needed, opposite side is similar one without use - should these be connected to anything?

it looks like I have wrong or broken switch, I have just two wires - brown (going to lamp) and yellow (going to harness door switch ground)

switch connects them or disconnects,
from Your description brown should be connected to switch housing ground when disconnected from yellow.
It is switched between housing and yellow - can anybody check it with meter?

ok, but is it also on and off from one of the pins to the housing?

No, just between the pins. No connection from the housing to any of the pins.
