Tav, the pic is on this page{and I've edited accordingly for easier reading}... It's a Radio shack 276-1143 diode... A 3 amp diode {the 4004 is rated for 1 amp}...And it's physically bigger than the original diode but after being wrapped with the cloth tape you cant tell the difference...Could be viewed as overkill but I drive mine and I don't like to see any smoke coming out of the dash....

btw, my drawing that I posted above is wrong. I switched the red and tellow wires in the drawing when I was writing them down. So it should go Blk w/yel goes to yellow and then to the yellow on that relay.

the red goes to the red and then to the blak at the relay.

thats what you get work upside down in a cramped area.

in any event, I soldered in a 1n4005 diode into that black and yellow harness that used to go to the relay and the headlight warning works great

I just noticed the pic (below) that Snoopy posted a few weeks ago is a '70 roadlamp relay...not a key in buzzer relay.

The roadlamp relay is mounted in the center area of the dash frame; left of the ash tray; right of the instrument cluster.

Here is the first pic I postd of a key in buzzer relay. The side bracket is spot welded at an angle when viewed from the side. And the other slight differences too.

Compare by looking at the side view of the roadlamp relay in the roadlamp harness pic, see how it is not angled to the unit.

Here is the wiring needed for the optional standard dash map light & switch panel light bulb, not sure if the rally dash also had this? Its the harness seen at top.

Below it is the near identical harness used for the maplight, the switch panel bulb AND the steering column title lamp. Notice a white connector is added. The optional 'seat belt' warning lamp plugs directly into the main connector.

That looks a little confusing ebodyseast. Could you explain that a little better?

The map light is on the bottom edge of dash frame by passengers left foot.
The title lamp lights up the switch panel.
The ignition lamp is the one in the steering column.

Just from memory, I was thinking all 3 came with the optional A01 light package, which was available with OR without rallye dash.

I didn't look at the diagram for this, but I'm thinking the map light has steady power with switched ground (typically yellow wires), the title lamp has steady ground with switched power (typically orange wires), and the ignition lamp is hooked up with the time delay somehow.

Seat belt lamp would be time delay too.

Tav

P.S. As a side note, the map light location moves from the dash frame to some plastic trim on AC cars, but I don't think this affects the wiring harness in any way.

Also the ignition lamp changed between 70 & 71. I'm not sure if that affected the wiring connector or not.

How you been Tav ole buddy!?!? Let's see. Because I have two different harnesses pictured, it would seem that at some point the steering column lamp became an extra light option, hence the lack of a white connector on the harness at top of photo. Snoopy gave us a list of the A01 light group earlier - and the column lamp is a part of this package. The factory wiring diagram I'm posting below makes all those wires a little easier to understand. Confusion begins because its mainly a GC/SE layout.

I'd still like to see what a headlamp delay relay wiring harness looks like - out of the car. Especially interesting is the black fuse holder that's incorprated into it. I have one fuse holder here, but it has different colored wires than what the diagram has listed. Since I never owned an e body with the delay relay I am clueless why my harness came with one. It is in-line with the signal flasher.

This is the missing top part of the wiring diagram to include the rest of the map light wire routing.

Here is an interesting (two wire) harness. This may be a non-A01 harness from a '71. I don't have any wiring diagrams for 1971 anymore.

It's part number label is MIA, so no way to verify what its used for yet. It has a yellow bullet connector - & may get plugged into the map light ground seen above. The pink bullet connector would seemingly get plugged into the pink accesory feed. Now, where does it's ending connector get plugged into?

One of the remaing accessory harnesses not yet seen in this thread is the a/c harness.

How about this one. Item "J". It looks like it might be taped down to the wiring harness. Maybe someone can take a look on an unmolested car?

I just got to my dash. Mine is an unmolested 73 and the timer is wrapped into the harness upside down on the bundle going to the fuse block and the firewall connector. It is under the masking tape label in the picture.

Hi
I read this thread carefully as I have lot of question marks in my dash wiring.
I'm restoring '70 Challenger SE that I bought in pieces, some of these pieces were from that car, some from other models and the biggest parts of these was missing. I live in Poland and there are just a few Challengers here.
Currently I try to put together optional light package.
I enclose three photos
first(bad picture, separate wire on paper), what is it? lamp has a black cylindrical housing, maybe not from Challenger
second (lamp on black floor), is it flood lamp? where it should go?
third (switch panel lamp) is it mounted correctly? is it called AC panel lamp? or switch panel lamp? is there any other switch panel lamp?
thanks
Bartek

Pic #1 - 95% pos this is NOT for '70 E Body

Pic #2 - Lamp and wire for dash switches, installs in dash panel that houses the (3) instrument cluster bulbs

Pic #3 - Mounted in correct position.

Thanks, Now I see rectangular cutout with screw hole on side of light panel

That panel has also three big "keyhole" shaped cutouts, what are these for?

When I open the door, illumination goes on for switch panel, A/C panel and ign. switch, nothing for instruments, correct?

any idea where can I find door ajar switches? ones that go on the backside of the door, I have just connectors with inch long plastic pins - kind of part of these switches

any picture of headlamp relay? where it mounts?
