The warning buzzer is part of the A01 package but the delay is not.

Headlight and Key-In buzzer are the same thing, it is a combination buzzer,

Here is picture of the Key-In/Headlight On buzzer and the Low Fuel relay.

Snoopy, I think the key in buzzer and the headlamp warning buzzer are not one in the same.

Here is the headlamp warning buzzer in the diagram. Two reds, two blacks/yellow tracers. There is a 'diode' mentioned that is the male end.

70 = Key In / Head Light On - Combination Buzzer.
70 = Horn Relay - Stand alone.

71 = Headlight On - Stand Alone.
71 = Horn / Key In Buzzer - Combination Buzzer/Relay.

the headlamp warning buzzer in the above wiring diagram I posted is what I am also wondering about.

It's the grey female 2 way connector - seen below top left. Approx. a foot above the bulkhead connector or approx. 6 inches above the turn signal and ignition steering column wiring connectors. The diagram shows installed w/ male 'diode.' This isn't the key in buzzer harness connector previously seen in a few of the other pics already posted earlier.

Was this connector used for anything as the diagram suggests, or a late decision to not use and make the key in buzzer also the headlamp warning buzzer?

Headlight delay relay...

Thanks for the pic Randy...I don't recall anyone ever posting the E-body HLD relay before....Definitely different than the 70 B body piece

WOW, These dashes look beautiful !!! You're all doing some great work....I've tried to follow different threads over the years on that diode and it's use and have'nt seen any real good answers on what the deal is....It definitely was used on some models and actually one of the pics snoopy posted has a pic of the factory diode...I'm not sure where these pics originated but I saved this one because I thought it was an interesting subject...This is the color version of the one snoopy posted with the highlighted "diode"....

OK here's the story on that connector... ...The connector is obviously part of the main harness as you can see...It's purpose is to bring the key-in buzzer circuit{Q13-18R) and the headlight switch circuit{L6-18BK/Y*} together in the same location....On cars without the A01 light group it is simply an unused connector...But the on the cars with the A01 or the headlight delay that connector gets a factory installed diode to bridge the connector in a way that the current from the headlight switch will activate the now double duty key-in buzzer....The diode itself in this case is simply a blocking diode where the current will pass through it from the headlight switch but will not allow the current from the key-in switch to backfeed to the headlight switch circuit...So that leads us to the main objective.... If you want your key in buzzer switch to perform the double duty of the headlight warning buzzer you need to install a diode bridging that connector... ...

And the good news is according to the 70 FSM that diode{part # 2983595} was also used in the other body styles so finding a used one might not be as hard as you think..... Or if originality is'nt a factor you can always get one from an electronics store like radio shack, install some connetors and wrap it with cloth tape and nobody but you will know... .. ..........
Now, on the headlight delay relay itself I've found some more pics so here you go... Here's an NOS 70 E-body relay... ....And the part number and date code on the mounting tab... ....Now for comparison here's an nos 70 B body piece... ....And lastely an NOS 70 C body relay... ....Now...If you look closely the actual relay insert and casing is the same across the board...It's the mounting hardware that's different and the C body piece is real close to the E body part....So again, if originality was'nt a factor or you had a shot insert you could swap the guts, or just use the other body style relays and it would still do the job.....

this is an interesting topic screamindriver, and thanx for the researching and info you've just given us.

the pic of the rallye dash with the headlamp delay label is the first i've seen, must have been an option of very limited production.

i've owned a couple of 70-71 e bodys that have the A01 package, none had that diode above installed into the harness.

there was an ebody headlamp delay relay that sold on ebay recently - last week ($45?)- hope one of you guys snatched it up! it was so tempting to bid on it - alas - if it is so lp, then it belonged on a car that truly needed a replacement. i do know where one more NOS unit may/might be had...for a price ($125.)

guess i need to start tracking down yet one more rare & ever elusive part (a correctly wrapped/insulated diode like above in pic) for my ride...in case i ever jump out & leave the headlights on & the key in the ignition. More so, in an attempt to replace those parts I've found that are/were MIA. Let me know if any one has a spare diode...will pay top dollar for a nice used example - or any leads on where to secure one.

Any one that had a problem before this thread - hope you guys got them all straightened out.

well i have the A01 and I have the delay relay (but its from a C body- now I see why I cant put screws into both holes- cause its not the right relay). my timer does NOT have that little cloth wrapped diode on it as far as I can see.

And here there funny part. both my key in buzzer AND headlight warning buzzer work perfectly. and the headlight delay works as well.

now, that being said, I did gather up most of these parts at a junk yard years and years ago so maybe I have the wrong parts. but they work

Correct !!! Which leads us to the next step on that connector...As Snoopy has pointed out if the car has road lamps the wiring harness from the lamps plug into that connector...I'm going to borrow two pics that Beepbeep{thanks Beepbeep !} has posted in the past instead of going out and standing on my head for the pics... Here's another shot of that busy connector.... .... And here's a pic of the 70 roadlamp harness....Take note that the connector marked "headlight warning buzzer" does in fact plug into that connector and in turn has another plug for the diode to do it's job...
