I think they only came on the cars that had the light package ordered. It is a seperate deal from the ignition system. There is a flat metal bracket that has a small bulb socket on top that sticks out over the key. There should be a small hole directly above the key in the soft pad. The wire runs over to the fuse box and is powered by the dome light circuit. There is a small capacitor that keeps a charge for 5-10 seconds that keeps the light lit after the doors are shut.

69 has that. It is an option that includes the Map Light and a delay that works for the dome light also. The ignition light is in a bracket that fits between the ignition switch and the dash. Easy to identify the wiring package, it has a lot of pink wires.

My 68 GTX has it and the map light no longer works and car slowly morphed into drag only!
