I just fired my new cam this afternoon (thanks to everyone who helped, this forum is seriously the best) and I'll be putting my Carter AVS on in another weekend or two. I already have an MSD-6AL and whatever vacuum advance distributor usually came with the Mopar orange box kits.
Is there anything else relatively cheap I can do to the car to pick up some power? I only have 2.93 gears in the rear (742) but differential work seems to get expensive really quick. I don't know how cheaply complete 3.23 or 3.55 third members can be found for but nobody's selling them around here. Distributor recurve maybe?

Distributor recurve is always a good idea, and I would do it either way. But it's still going to suck with those 2.93 gears. Great for highway cruising, sucky for punch around town.

Yeah really. Especially considering people still reporting 20+ mpg when using those ratios. I like the new power from this cam but I'm breaking the law by the time I'm out of 1st half the time!
I'd drop $230 on a new set of gears if I could set them up myself, but I don't have any of the tools to do it right.

Do you know what the go-to kit is for Mopar dists on street cars? I've heard people talking about certain Mr. Gasket kits intended for Chevies, but I don't want to go chopping up the bits in my distributor to make them work right.

If you have the mp distributor I doubt you need to recurve it.Every one I have had has a quick curve that comes in early.

A decent rundown of you parts combo may help us shed light on any weak spots.

HP ex manifolds/mandrel bent exhaust/dynomax muffs/X pipe/resonators for noise reduction & dial in the dist subsystems one at a time IN ORDER. As said the gears are gonna hurt you bad. good cam choice I'm assuming. EDIT correct converter choice also

Gears and convertor would make a big difference. Cheap stuff: block exhaust crossover in intake, duct cool outside air to the carb, good thermo fan clutch or electric fan.

IDK I had a Mopar Performance Dizzy that came with one light spring and one governor spring, just like the factory ones. I did get it cheap second hand though, so it could have been fooled with and IDK when it was made.

For what its worth put a timing light on your car and see where the timing is all in at. If its much above 2000 rpm go on summit racing look for re-curve kits for a Chrysler 440. Buy the Mr Gasket one for 5 dollars or whatever it is. Disassemble your dizzy and take out the heavier of the two springs that may be in there, if they are the same then it obviously doesn't matter. Replace it with the Mr. Gasket spring and you should have full advance ~2000 rpm, depending on the weights you have.

And 2.93s are incredible galaxies away from 3.55s.

For anything with 2.93 gears I would think having the right size cam(not too big),dual plane intake, and the right size vacuum secondary carb would help throttle response.

Depending on your compression you might need to slow the curve down to stay out of detonation.

Running more initial timing may help the bottom end also.

Small tube headers(or hp manifolds) and a good 2.5 exhaust system with low restriction mufflers.

A converter may help but it will have to have minimal slippage to work well.
