I'm in the process of putting together a black 68 Superbee, just making sure a guy could order the flat black tail panal decals if the car was black.

This came up on another posting of 68 Bee's and it seemed nobody knew the real answer. On andy440.com there area few black ones, but you can't tell if they are there or not. Or even if those are original cars or redone at sometime.

All I know is black stripes on a black car look awesome. (useless post, i know)

I can't think of a reason it wouldn't have been available.

It was STANDARD, so I can't think of a reason it wouldn't be there.

I agree completely, I don't know why it wouldn't be there either. It was just one guy that disagreed with me and said it wouldn't be there on a black car.

Like I said in a post before, get it without a hole cut for the key hole (just have the stripe installer make a small hole).
My car looked goofy without anything on the backend

There is no comparing a Black car to a light Yellow car.

Exterior color rarely if ever made a difference on the STANDARD equipment of a car. Does anyone know of an example where it did?

'68 Chargers had organisol inside the chrome on the tail panel regardless of body color.
'70 'Cuda tail panel paint is black regardless of body color.
'70 AAR & T/A stripes are black regardless of body color.

'71 Super Bee and Charger R/T & '72 Charger Rallye stripes are black regardless of body color.

All OPTIONAL performance hood treatments are black regardless of body color.
OPTIONAL '70 'Cuda "hockey stripes" are black regardless of body color.

The only example I can think of where a STANDARD part would be modified based on color is a "rallye red" SHAKER bubble on a '70 HEMI 'Cuda. & If you can find any hard and accurate rules on when & where that happened - I'll tip my hat to you.

Dan covered it well with many good examples of how Mopar handled blackout treatments...

IIRC the only difference would be matte black for black cars and gloss black for the rest.

Say what?

..... another one would be - ALL '69 GTXs have the lower body (below mouldings) painted (organisol?) BLACK regardless of body color.

I was talking E-Body. But how would you see the stripe on a black car with a gloss black stripe? Or did they all come Matte?

69 Bees and R/Ts have the black tail panel

My 68 Bee had black around the tail panel, but the center of it between the tailights was body color. And IIRC the black surround was a decal.

Would a Brand X example suffice? 1969 SS 396 Camaro in a dark color didn't get the blackout.

Yes, I think it's strange. I would think the Bee would get the blackout.

Mopars in dark colors didn't get radiator support, cowl or pinch weld areas blacked out... But they did still get exterior body blackouts...

It wasn't meant as comparison to his. Was looking through my photobucket to see if I had any black cars in it and came across that old picture. I was just stating that my car looked funny with it all bare back there.

Right, they weren't supposed to, but I've seen plenty that did.

Here's another question... The pillar (post) between the front and rear side windows. Is that painted like on the Coronet? Or does a Superbee have a piece of crome there?

For the RR the pillar was dependent on whether it had a decor package. Can't say whether the Bee came with it standard or it was an option.
