How long should it take a small but reputable resto shop that has done E bodies before to restore a cuda? I supply money, he supplies labor. Seems like many shops should be happy to have a customer like that these days. Had quite a bit of rust so replaced both quarters, floor, trunk, inner fenders, the rest should be normal stuff. The longest hold up was trying to find fenders. But should have sent components out to be ready. It was painted 2 months ago, so things should be moving on rather quick I would think. I always tress I don't want to rush and have a half job, just want progress. Also if anybody has paid for a restoration lately, If they didn't mind giving a ball park grand total so I know if he's close. Thanks

Im a little confused, is the car painted, and just needs assembly? if thats the case, provided all of the parts need to be restored still, I could probably get it done in 6 months if working just weekends. thats also if the parts (assuming car has been striped to the shell and painted) have been properly labeled and bagged and also complete (no part hunting) If the car ISN'T painted and still needs sheetmetal work, it all depends on how fast the body guy is.. as I dont do body work. it is a little hard to answer this question, but I think if it was painted already, I could do it in 6 months.

The shows on TV can do a full boat resto in a week , shouldn't take longer than that ...

if your paying for all to BE done, and it hasen't hurt yet, there not close, quality work comes with $$$$ x $$,ecspecially if your not doing anything yourself, once body is restored, each part must be restored and assembled

The question is, are the other parts going back on the car already finished or do they need restored yet? Doing all the smaller stuff beyond body and paint take just as long.

Most of the subassemblies have not been sent out yet. The suspension and drive line are completed. But it is not rolling yet. The interior parts have arrived but nothing installed as of yet. And I did give him a max budget so should not be his cash cow project. Thanks

I went from a painted , but 'completely' empty shell to a done car - right at about 350 hours. Body was painted, Engine , transmission and rear axle were done when it was brought to me.
I did ALL the remaining component work.
Instrument panel, steering column , Interior, ( seat covers, headliner and vinyl top were subleted out ) Grille, tail light assys, console, Rocker mldgs, etc etc etc. Every wiring harness in it is new ft to rear. What wasn't avail, I made. Electronic ignition is completely hidden. Dynomat installation alone was almost 2 full days. Making the park brake system work with subframe connectors. Fabrication work for the Aftermkt A/C install to make it 100% removal and you would never know it was there. Including making the wiring harness blend in with the car as much as possibile.

about 350 man hours with everything on hand is just about right. Probably even less.
Key is to have all things needed handy. Heck I think just 250 hours is possible if you have everything you need handy and ready to install.
I talked to Alan Gallant and he said 150 hours is possibile. AFTER all the components are done, but it's the component stuff that eats time. steering column as an example will vary from 6 to 10 hours.
heater box 30 down to 8 depending on a/c or not.
dash frame is another time bandit. Figure a full day to strip it down to nothing AFTER it's removed from the car I have in the 20-25 hour range in a 1969 B-body dash resto right now and I'n not done.
Like I said earlier, I got the lime green Cuda in as a completely painted BUT completely dis-assembled shell. and I just ck'd I have right at 365 hours start to finish.
I have it back in now to change out the rebuilt steering box for another rebuilt steering box and to fix a few other issues.
Throw in a few 'issues' with repop or reman parts and it gets time consuming faster than you might think.

If your figuring a complete car start to finish drive it in the door, strip it, do the normal Qtrs, Inners, trunk floor, Extentions, ect. do the body work the correct way, Paint it and then start restoring the rest of the components..A good shop can do a complete car in 10-14 months. and about 1000-1500 hours plus the cost of the materials parts ect. Its very very hard to put an honest time or price on anything as you really don't know what you have until you get there. I did a 70 challenger R/T and had almost 50 hours in the dash assembly alone because when the car came apart it looked like some one played connect the dots with the wire harness. If you want to do a K member the proper way, Dis assemble- blast- paint- new bushings- rebuild the steering box and detain it correct its about 40 hours to make it show quality.. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)

My "small but reputable resto shop that has done E bodies before" did a couple months worth of work then turned into a world class excuse generator that cost a year on my build. It was finished elsewhere.
Sincere wishes for best of luck with your project. You'll need it.

Yeah, it's almost done, the heavy lifting is over. I found a shop within 15 miles of me, starting up at the time so they were looking to build their reputation. They did the finish work and paint, the panels are super straight. Prices reasonable and they don't play games.
