I need help. I am trying to clean the frame and underneath of my 65 Barracuda. What method would you guys suggest? I will have to replace the right side floor pans and would like to clean up the best I can so This problem will not come back. I don't have any way to turn the car on the side to really get under it. It is on jack stands.
I am open to ideas. Chemical, sand blasting, soda blasting. Let me know what you guys think would be best for me to use.
thanks

I would say that sandblasting it the way to go for you. No way to chemical strip it and soda doesn't remove rust.

I personally would use 6 to 8 floor stands, instead of using one side pan, i would go with a full floor, not much more expensive, but it makes the over all job better and cleaner, you just drill out the spot welds, and reweld in the same place, plus it puts the value up as well, easiest way to clean up the rust would be a sand blaster attached to an air compressor, small ones are cheap, and you can get media, like soda by the bag as well

Thanks guys for the help. I have a good compressor so sand blasting sounds good, but how do you get to everything? You know, some places are small crevices and tight spots. How would i take care of rust there?

After I blast all I can I spray some rust converter into the nucks and cranies and down the frame rails as deep as I can. Then epoxy prime over that before I put the floors in (and spraying the weldable areas with weld thru primer)

A braided wire cup wheel on a cheapie angle grinder does wonders.

Just be careful around edges!

Where would I find a full floor? I have seen the front and back and right side left side listed. I really only need the right side, but you guys are right as usual, it would be easier and cleaner to replace it all at once. Plus if you remove the floor it would be easier to get to more of the concealed rust.
Thanks fou your help.

Get one of those tyvek suits and use fine grit "coal slag" for an abrasive. (Black Beauty is a common brand) It's MUCH safer than sand, it's cheap and actually can be reused at least once. Its doesn't dust nearly as bad as sand, it's very hard and leaves good tooth for painting. The problem with rust is what you see is not what you get...It's often only the visible part of what's actually there. Once you start removing metal the project can get out of hand quickly...

If you plan to DIY blast, Aluminum Oxide on the under cariage can't be beaten.

Just turn down the PSI a little bit. It cuts faster, less reduction in material reduction. Filtering it and re using has a higher return that coal slag. Dust is less hazardous.

(Black Beauty is VERY RUFF!!!!dont use it! and never blast your hood, doors or roof, or 1/4s with sand(unless you know what your doing) da the other parts, or chemically strip them then dust them with sand,,, use proper breathing apparatus with silicone sand!

I would only media blast if the car was totally stripped to a bare shell and on a rotisserie. Otherwise you will stick media where you will never be able to get it out. There are many different grades of "black beauty" From super fine to super course.

In your case laying on your back. A map gas torch and a scraper or just a wire brush on a drill like what was mentioned is best in your case. Good luck with it.

I know a little bit about media blasting and coal slage(black beauty) as I buy it by the skid.

Last skid I got from Western Hills Building Supply on Harrison Ave near I-74.

But I was talking to Brandon at American Reclaiming in Harrison Ohio and he told me he could sell it to me cheaper in skids.
