And, well, "they" are probably spot on. However, we have an event locally here every July called Street Machine Weekend. The way the weekend goes, is Friday night cruise, Then Saturday, is a 100 foot dash, Sunday morning there is an Auto cross, and Sunday afternoon is a car show.

Each event cost $10.00 to enter. This year they have decided to add the "Ultimate Street Car Challenge" which is an additional $10.00.

Basically, the USCC rules are as follows...

You must run the same 4 tires all weekend.

You must use the same driver for the 100 foot dash, and autocross.

Your car must pass tech.

I plan to add a front and rear sway bar to the car. I just made a deal on a set of 4 275/60R15 ET Street Radials to run on all four corners. I have purchased a set of QA1 Stocker "R" front shocks. I will still need to buy rears. I am building my own version of the "Leaf Link" suspension.

Any other pointers would be great. I know my front shocks aren't the best choice, but it is a straight line car, so everything to go around corners will be a compromise. Same with the tires, they aren't an auto cross tire, but some guys have used them with success. The rear Leaf link should alow me to set the car down pretty low for the autocross event.

great car! now i have some competition when my runner is done for street wheelers! sway bars and shocks are a must - as well as subframe connectors if you havent already - but i see your car is fully caged...i have never used a MT tire for autox - not sure how well it would work...

maybe, i'm always in the autox evey year, usually with my drift car (AE86). This year Im building a pro touring 71 roadrunner to compete in. My dad armand huneault, is on the street wheelers committee . I dont know if I'll be entering the USCC, (I had enough money to build the car but not the motor - stock 383) but I will forsure be in the autox again...

Just hope this guy doesn't show up!!!

So you have
a cruise (Car) how is it graded? Do open pipes help?
a Sprint (driver) how about training for this?
an AutoX (car and driver) What you are concentrating on.
a Show (Car) polish after mods!!!

Yeah, something like that would be ideal as long as it is alright in the 100 footer.

The way it is scored, is like this...

You have to show up to every event.

Your fastest 100 footer time, will be multiplied by 5, then added to your fastest auto cross time.

Auto cross times were in the 48-65 seconds last year I think???(Dan probably has a better idea than I do on the auto X times)

The 100 foot times ranged from 1.9 seconds, to 3.5 seconds.

You honestly think you can shove a 28" tall 275/60-15 under the front of an F body? Good luck with that.

Personally, I think you'd be better off with shorter front tires.

The F Body front wheel well is roomy. I have put a 275/60 on the front of it before. In fact, the the front wheel well is almost identical to the back. When I painted my car, there were no quarter panels you could buy, and no good donor cars. My rear drivers side quarter has my old front fender graphed into it.

IF it is too tight to throw around corners, I know where some shorter tires are.

As for sway bars, I will be heading down to the circle track shop, and looking at what my options are that way.

The front bumper on the Aspen looks like one from a 73/74 Duster.

I agree with Feets, that car is going to push big time in tight corners, shorter tires and some camber adjustments will go a long ways in getting it around corners. How are your brakes? Drive hard, brake late, turn, hit gas, repeat. Remember, smooth = fast on road courses, keeping the car under control and "seemingly" going slower often results in much better course times.

Will they allow you to disconnect the front sway bar end links when you drag race it? If so, do it.

That could very well be. I will probably do practicing, try the 275's if they don't rub. If not I might go to a 255/60R15.

And yes, I will be leaving the sway bar off at the 100 foot dash, then putting it on for the Sunday auto cross. The only requirements I have been told so far, are, same driver for both events, and the same tires all weekend.

I think my front shocks will do OK. Remember, this is a straight line car for the most part, the auto cross won't be my strong part of the event. The front shocks are QA1 stocker star R's. They are single adjustable. But the adjustment only changes extension. They stay constant on compression. They are stiff on compression. If I tighten them up they might be OK at the auto cross.

sweet! I think your best bet is to maybe find the stickiest street tire they allow in the street category at the 100 footer and run in that class so you can be competitive at the autox. The autox changes every year - last year was around the 45 sec mark, the year before was around the 1 min...

Not a F body but for FWIW I ran 255/60/15's front and 275/60/15's rear on my 80 Mirada. The 255's rubbed the bracket for the brake hose slightly at full lock, but moving it upwards about 1" cured that. Even though 275's are about 1" wider and taller I think they might work.

On mine the suspension is stock except for KYB's, the iso clamp removed for the axle and an extra leaf in the rear. That jacked the rear up more than I needed but the stock springs were too soft IMO. There is some body roll, but I think the car handles great for what it is. I'd love to try a larger front sway bar with a rear bar.

Cool Mirada! They are built on the same platform as the F Body basically.

As for the tires, I have to run a drag radial on the back at least. A regular street tire works worse on VHT then on a bare street from my experience. I can't remember where I seen this, but there was a guy running 4 drag radials in an Autocross, and the thing handle surprisingly well! And he was doing just auto cross too.

From the sounds of it, the auto cross isn't going to be as tight as years past, or at least, that's the word on the street. I hear the Willms boys have said they plan on running the USCC... That will be rediculous! Dan probably knows the cars I am talking about, but for the rest of the Moparts members, the Wilms brothers cars are blown alcohol big block Chevies. One is a 572 with a 14-71 blower in a chevette. The other is a 540 with a 8-71 blower. Both definitely straight line cars, both very competitive in the 100 footer. I will be standing clear when they make their auto cross attempts.

Oh, and one question I forgot to answer, my car will be stopping using factory front discs, and a set of street Wilwood discs on the rear for now. I plan on upgrading the fronts later on.

Thanks for the input so far! Keep it coming!

Ya, watch it in the autocross, have a video camera going, those 2 cars just might flip, the chevette anyway.

Yeah, the chevette is stretched a bunch, but still very small. I will have my gopro camera ready for sure. I will slap it on one of the Willms Brothers cars if I can.

Here is a picture of the chevette, with the vega in the back ground.

So I guess you ignored my comment on the front bumper?

I don't know anything about those years and models, let alone how to tell which bumper is which.
