I'm being hassled by the Man. I need to get my front plate on. Anyone know if the bracket in the pic is correct for a '70 Challenger?

Also, I don't know where it mounts. My bumper and valance don't have any corresponding holes to mount this thing. Does anyone have a pic or a diagram as to where they go? Where the holes there from the factory or where they dealer installed?

Thanks!

Looks like the right one. It goes on the Valance in the middle where the bumper is cut out. It mounts direct to the Valance. It hooks over the top and them you have to drill the two lower holes out..
I'll see if i have a pic in my files that shows the holes..
Joe.

I'm glad I asked! I have no holes in that area at all. Is it common not to have the holes in the valance?

Valance interchanges from 70-74 but only 70-71 use that style bracket... So 72 & up valance won't have the holes...

I've had the car for over 20 years, but it's possible the front valance has been switched.

Do the holes on the top of the bracket get screwed down or just the two lower ones?

Yes it mounts with 4 bolts.

That was a dealer installed piece wasn't it? It came in the trunk from the factory. Not all states require a front plate. I would imagine a lot of them never got installed in those states.

Is this is one of them? But the 36xxxx part numbers has me questioning it. Doesn't look like it's ever been installed.

Doens't look like it's got a kink in it to fit the center countour of the Challenger valence. (neither does the OP's picture either)

That isn't a Challenger bracket..

The top two bolts bolt through the lip that is folded back over at the top of the valance... The bracket hooks over the top of the valance..

If don't care about being 100% correct, a 73-74 bracket will work. As long as you have the two holes drilled in the bumper on the underside lip at the top of the license plate recess, which you should, you're good to go. You can buy the repop bracket for a reasonable price and bolt it to the bumper. That way, you don't have to do any sheetmetal drilling. I did this on my 73 when I pulled the bumpers in.

Looks good, no drilling...

That's a great idea, Stroker. That bracket in the first pic is actually mine. But in this case I don't care about originality if it could save me from drilling. As it turns out I'd still have to drill because my bumper only has one hole in the center.

Let me know if it works out... The repop bracket has the two outboard holes which you can use to mark the bumper.

Can you drill the bumper without fragging the chrome?

I don't think I can safely drill the bumper. I'll stick to the valance. Maybe duct tape and bailing wire if I can't work up the nerve.
