Help Please. Can someone tell me how to release the wiper arms from the posts on a 71 Challenger? I am assuning that the release is the spring loaded U shaped "wire" at the very base of the arm, but I couldn't figure it out. They have been on for some time. Do I need a tool?
Thanks

Yes you need push the little tab, I wrap them with a rag and grap them with vice grips and wiggle and pull. They will come off but it takes some muscle.

Take care,

I appreciate the reply, I'm learning as I go. When you say push the tab, are you saying push it up, down, towards the post or away?
Thanks again.

Away from post, also try a little lube like WD40, CRC, Gibbs, etc. While pulling back on clip pry the arm up with care not to damage what you are prying on.

Here is what you are working with if a '71 Challenger wiper arm is the same as a '69 GTX?

So you move the clip back away from the post and pull or pry up the wiper blade assembly. I used a small block of wood and a tape wrapped large screwdriver and a triple folded shop rag. I wanted to use some WD40 or similar but was concerned about the black hood stripe finish on the GTX.........came off without any lube but I did put them back on with a little anti-seize compound

This is one of the best (and cheapest) tools I have ever bought. You need one, trust me.

Google Lisle Tools. Not Snap-on,but it was made in the USA.

can be done without it, but if you're gonna need to do this more than once, that tool looks handy. Thanks!

I think I've had wiper arms off at least 4 different vehicles. That tool probably would have saved me a lot of time and hassle. I've also been going the cloth/wood block/screwdrivers route.

I'm away from my home pc but here's the link to what I posted on ramchargercentral showing the steps taken to remove the wiper arms, then remove and replace the linkage bushings on my 86 D250.

It may be more than you need but consider it another option
