At what ET is a Flexplate / Case shield required? I’ve been thinking of adding 1 to my 64 Dodge Polara which is a 10.50 car. It’s probably still a good idea even if it’s not required for the ET.
Anyways……. I’m looking at the CSR unit and I’m concerned how many modifications to the tunnel will be required. The drive train is NOT in the stock location. I have shifted it back 3/4” to the fire wall.

NHRA rule book says 10.99 and quicker. I'd say you need one by the rules and more importantly your safety. I have a CSR on my A body, it was a bolt up deal.

We bought a carbon fiber shield for our '64 Savoy several years ago. The engine is set back about 1". After beating on the trans tunnel with a mallet and flattening out the pinch weld area where the firewall and floor meet we still had no luck getting it on there. So...the trans blanket went back on.

the csr shield is tough on some application, some guys throw them on ,others , have to cut n beat!
If your motor is pulled back any , it will have to have some floor work done for a csr, maybe even a blanket!
we put one in the 67 coronet and it was a major deal , we had to cut , move almost the whole area under the console! still hit the cross-member
Good luck,
as for the et, you should already be there!

i just put my shield on last week. real pain. a-body. i have a motor plate & mid plate, had to loosen the mid plate just to let the engine tip down enough to get trans on. can't get to the top 4 bolts. hole sawed tunnel so i could tighten those bolts. other than that, it fits like a glove. easy access for linkage & frt band adjustment. u will have to trim the shield for the cooling lines & band adjuster. i had to on mine. just sayin. seeya.

A CSR is one of the most miserable jobs I have done on my car.
Granted I have the engine centered in the bay on my car, but a with a stock location, you will still have to cut out the trans tunnel flange underneath and make special tools to get the engine/trans bolts out.

I would NOT cut the shield if you do it voids the SFI and they will not recert it for you either.
I had no problems getting to the cooler lines or anything eles.

My brother uses the carbon fiber shield on his 64 Plymouth Fury. I plan to put one on my 63 this year. Ron

If your tunnel is stock forget the shield and get a blanket. Even then you'll have to lower the rear cross member to install. Want to make a shield fit in an early B-Body? Here's how.

First you cut it up 2" higher and 4" wider. Then make the patch.

Install the CRS carbon fiber unit to my 63 Savoy with no body modifactions at all. Just had to remove the casting ears on the tranny. Tight fit but it fit.

We have the CSR shield on our car and the tunnel was cut about half as much as DVW. The engine is set back about an inch and the pinch weld is flattened, but you still have to cut the floor.

If you install it, drill some holes in the firewall (and plug them) for the top two trans bolts or you will never get them out with the shield on.
