Finally a HUSKER again
Its been a while since Ive had any autoslush boxes, so im a lot fuzzy on the kick down. This has the 2 piece rods and bell crank on the tranny. I have a box pull of linkage, and the closest one I have seems to be long, and at rest with no upper linkage on it, the bell crank is basically pointing straight, and there is still some load on the kickdown lever on the tranny. How is this suposed to be, and what is the at rest load suposed to feel like? Does anyone have any pictures of their set up?

Thanks guys

The lower bellcrank looks just like this at rest, So I assume this is correct before any carb linkage is hoocked up?

the lower linkage is almost touching the belcrank like in the picture.

I just got a stock truck 3 piece set up for my 440/727

the bracket on the intake has a hole to stick a drill bit in to lock it.

the rod from the trans lever to bell crank is solid and hooks to bell crank, the long adjustable rod goes on bell crank at the trans bellcrank then up to upper bellcrank.

IIRC,you then remove the drill bit unlocking the rods, hold it all the way forward against the lever stop and adjust the slotted car rod till the back of the slot is in contact with throttle stud.

before i started I closed up the carb rod length and checked it at wide open throttle makeing sure it did not bind on the intake bracket,(it did so slight adjustment need to start) then made the adjustments..run the carb rod out to carb stud, double check it was all the way back when at WOT and both work independant of each other with no binding and the return spring snaps it back at idle.

results may vary..if its from a low deck its like 2-v and 4-v linkage on SB..may need some tweeking to get it just right.

good luck

if you need a pix of a truck set up mine is off on the bench right now

from what i can tell car and truck have a different intake brackets and are in different spots...higher and lower pivot points.

they will vary a little bit on position from truck to truck IMO.

mine was like that at the start, after adjusted it was a little better looking.

Im a bit confused as to why they have an adjustable rod there, if you put a pin through the top bel crank to set it, why would there be any adjustment behind that at the kickdown arm on the tranny. Basically I think I have the right parts with the right pieces according to what I have reserched up on google. The sixpack set up should not have any affect on the kickdown. I just need to find the carb stud, and the sloted upper carb linkage is all.

Would ya snap a shop for me Scratchin? That would help a lot.

here it is at wide open throttle

look at the rod at the back and see how close it is to the bracket.

with the carb WOT i can push the rod back just a little to bump the bracket..so it should never bind at this setting.

i then put the drill bit in and adjust the middle long rod.

hers the lower rods with the trans lever pushed all the way foward.

not the angles of bellcranks,i think thats what you asked about, they will vary as I am just holding the upper rod some what straight up with pressure to note the bellcranks.

the measurement on the middle rod is 14 1/2" long with 2 off sets

from the bottom working up

2.5" up from lower bellcrank 90* is first offset

9.5" long straight rod then another offset bend

from that bend 2.5" to end of threded rod.
