Hi,

I'm trying to remove the two bolts that hold the head pipe to the exhaust manifold, this is 400. I've got both bolts spinning and my plan was to put a wrench on the top of the bolt, keep turning the nut from below until the wrench jams against the block and keep turning until it comes off. But, there's not enough space around the bolt's head to put a wrench around it. The manifold flanges up around the bolt head.

I'm sure the easy way is to torch off the nuts but I don't have access to torches and the car isn't mobile so bringing it to a shop isn't an option.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mike.

I have a little dremmel with a cut off disc that is great for tight spaces and makes quick work of stuff like this. With the different tips they are great for small cutting and grinding jobs.

have a helper buddy hold a open end wrench on the top and you use a socket on the nut from below.

last resort...I have used a sawzall to chop the pipe as close to manny as I could then remove the manny with the short piece of pipe as a unit, then on the bench remove the rusted bolt/nut.

take the pipe to a muff shop and have them make you a slip coupling about 4" long.

slide it on the pipe, install manny and slide the coupling back over the exhast pipe and make 2 welds. or use 2 muff clamps with a longer 6" coupling.

** you may want to cut the pipe were its ez-est to get at to work a coupling and welder or clamps.

Could you use a "crow foot" wrench and a long ext. and hold back up yourself if you have no help?

In the past I've just used a THIN box-end 5/8" or 11/16" to hold the top of the bolt and a long extension with correct size DEEP 6-point socket on the lower nut.
* Be sure to spray some Mopar heat control valve solvent and let sit overnight!
