What is the difference between a standard 440 and a 440 magnum?

Standard 440 could be in anything, a 440 Magnum is in a Dodge.

I think the only difference between a standard 440 and magnum is the camshaft and compression,the blocks are all the same.

Magnum, Super Commando, TNT, will have;
higher compression
cam with more duration and lift
windage tray
baffled oil pan
free flow exhaust manifolds
larger carb
different ignition curve
motors in front of manual trans had dual points

depending on year, it could also have;
larger exhaust valves
higher capacity oil pan

Higher compression will also depend on the year , 66-70 the 350HP and 375HP motors had the same advertised compression ratio.

The 440 magnum is just a fancier marketing term for the 440hp.

AFAIK, the 440 and 440hp always had the same pistons in any given model year.

UHHHHH, I don't think so. HP pistons should have a taller compression distance to raise compression, at least til '73 or so. Also the 908 "6-pack" rods were in the HP motors for a while.

Compression ratios for the 350 and 375 hp 440 were the same in 67, 68, 69, 70. 1971 seem to be different as the hp ratings droppped to 370 and 335, and CR were 9.7 and 9.0.

According to Motor
