I can barely see a clip in the window crank, but It doesn't appear to have an open end to it. I don't want to break anything since parts are so hard to find. Any help getting them off would be greatly appreciated...

Try searching here, or join and ask if this is your car. The site has been acting up the past few days, so you may not be able to get on, but it's a great place for info.

There are slots in the window shaft. The handles are held on with a square clip. Its like a spring. The tool to remove them I see on Ebay once in a while and they bring good money.I made one from a old flat screwdriver.Blunt end and a slight ben to release the spring type retainer from the shaft.I did the ones in my kids 62 and my 57 with it.You have to play with it a bit but they will release.Rocky

So, I assume I need to pry on the clip from the tabbed end of the clip??

Does the clip pop off, or do you just keep pulling the handle outward as you're prying on the clip?

Found this it's supposed to work on a '55. I think I have the same clip.

The clip is attached to the handle. It has to be kind of pulled on the side thats not clipped into the handle. The tool that releases them kind of pushes it away from the shaft to release it.I just played with them and when they release they just slide off.You do have to push the door panel in to see the clips.Rocky
