I am restoring a factory power disc brake car and I ordered up
new one piece rotors from a local parts store. My original two piece rotors were beyone their minimum thickness of .94 .....

Now I cannot get the calipers to fit on the new rotos when the new brake pads are installed. With no pads in , the calipers fit.

I had to mill down the brake pads using a belt sander and I even turned the new rotors to .96 thickness and they still don't clear.

Any thoughts?

It looks like the Rotors are dished to the outside of the wheel.
The rotor does not sit in the middle of the caliper. I have the factory KH brakes.

Are the new rotors that are sold now really for 1971 and later cars?
Is 1970 rotors specific to 1970?

Any help is appreciated.

Do you have the caliper piston retracted all the way back into the bore of the caliper?
I have had your problem a time or two in the past when both replacing rotors and pads at the same time, with new.
But nothing that sanding down the new pads a bit didn't take care of.
Sometimes manufactures tolerances aren't the greatest anymore, when your trying to fit new parts together at the same time.
Where did you get the rotors?
Rotors for the 70-72 B & E body cars aren't the easiest things to come across these days.
Unless you got the wrong parts, or mix boxed parts, your now screwed, as you already machined the new rotors that you just installed.
You won't be able to return them, if they are indeed the improper ones.
The only other thing that i can think of, is the bearing race in the hub of the rotor, isn't seated all the way down, or that area in the rotor was machined wrong from the git go.
Anyway, good luck in getting it figured out.

Dr. diff sells a spacer so you can use the 73 up one piece rotor on the 70-72 spindle .

As said you are screwed now that you machined the pads and the rotors if they are the wrong parts .

good luck figuring it out .

I think the OP was just wondering if any else has run into this problem ..... not how he is screwed.

Yep I know I'm screwed. I just need to know where to get correct rotors.
The calipers are compressed. The offset is just way off. So I need to find a solution.

Year One has the 70-71 two piece rotors, but they're pricy.
http://www.yearone.com//

Part # Description Price Add to Cart
NG122 Hub and rotor assembly for 1970-1972 B-body models. $269.99

I thought that the only issue with using 73 and up rotors was the bearing size (which the Dr.Diff spacers fix).

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

Doesn't really matter now if someone has the same problem , he can't return the incorrectly made parts once he modified them unless he has a real good relationship with the counter person and can prove this is an a manufacturing screwup. The rotrs are more than likely the problem , he might be able to get a refund on those , the pads I doubt .

Mr. Anderson , either get the dr. diff spacer and use the later rotors or if this is a correct resto trailer queen pont up for the Y.O. parts .

If you want to go thru the leg work you might be able to prove the Vatozone parts are incorrectly made and get a refund on the parts you machined .

...or, you could do what I did on my daughter's 70 Sport Satellite driver, orig disk brake car - the A body disk brake conversion. Total cost for the junkyard parts (spindles & caliper adapters), loaded caliper sets, and unicast rotors was about the cost of one replacement two piece rotor.

Didn't know about the Dr Diff spacers, but the A body conversion worked good since I was replacing the BJs anyway.
