Better idle quality is about all I can share. But it is substantially better. There is a hp or fouor there but not sure it is worth the expense, unles you are looking for every one

This is one of the options I need to consider when putting my 451 back together.. What is the expense? The only real expense I can think of is the camshaft.. but if you're going to buy a new one.. why shouldnt one consider getting it with the swap?

Are you thinking of doing the 4/7 only swap? If so don't do that the reason I'm saying that is with the 4/7 only swap your moving the problem(one cylinder firing 90 degree from the one beside it) from the drivers side to the passenger side Making a 4/7, 3/2 swap will cure that problem IE firing order

1843
6572
versus:
1872
6543
but that moves it also, it doesn't really fix it either I guess there is no firing order that will really get rid of the problem, lookng at it closer

We tried 4/7 our SS Hemi motors and found nothing in drag performance. We called it the "Oldsmobile Rocket" firing order. Don't forget you plug wires......ask me how

It will run like a Ford once you give it a Ford firing order.

The ford cylinders are numbered different so its not the same effect.

No, it is the same as doing the 4/7 swap
1842
6573
4 and 2 are now firing in 90 degree sequence along with 5&7 firing the same as original

The Engine that I built Last Year had a 55MM Cam with a 4/7 Swap.. The Cam was Custom Ground with Specs From Tom Hemphill..
It was a New build and was the first Swap Cam I ever had and have nothing to compare it to.. I'm freshening an old Engine I had and was going to give it a face lift..Plan on Changing Cam Any Way.. Just wondering if Anybody had 1st Hand Experience

Exactly .......and if swapping the firing order around was so great, more cars would have come that way from the factory......

Good theory but no diff in ones I have done. Like most "tricks"
I usually get out run by a guy with a dingle berry honed .590 solid cam with lifters he got from his brother in a car that you need a tetanus shot to drive --No tricks except he needs the winnings to pay the rent.

Yes, LS engines use the Ford 351W firing order. The 47 swap gives you the Ford flat head firing order. The 47 swap is popular enough for Chevy engines that Comp has a lot of shelf cams ground this way. I'm not aware of any cam company that stocks Mopar cams with a different firing order.

Ford tried all of these firing orders over the years for some unknown reason. I'm not sure what they are using on their newest motors. Anyone know what the 5.7 Hemi uses as a firing order?

From what I've been told, the only difference from changing the firing order is some reduction in NVH. I think that is why GM changed the firing order for the LS engines. There might also be slightly less load on the crankshaft with the LS firing order, or at least some people report better bearing life.

It is hard to explain how there could be any power difference with any of these firing orders but some people claim to have seen a difference.

Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, Left bank from front to back is 1-3-5-7, right bank from front to back is 2-4-6-8. same as a sb.

Interesting subject.

Noteworthy forum reply quoted from Hot Rod at the bottom of this page. The intake manifold theory seems legit.

Would anyone who has swapped firing order care to provide a sound clip?
