1984 Dodge Ram, 360 c.i. engine, auto ...a/c.. etc

Looking to replace the battery in the old boy, and was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on the best battery out there for an old workhorse...

I've been an Interstate fan for the last 20 years or so. They always seem to last alot longer than I would expect. My father and brother have had similar experiences.

I somewhat regularly see near new batteries on craigs list that people bought then the prob was elsewhere. I too have had good luck with interstate tho a few individuals have not but we only hear about probs & very few (regarding interstate). Locally I'd find one of any brand on sale & no need to splurge for top of the line in most cases

I use Walmart batteries for most of my DD's. They have done fine for me.

Really, it's lead and acid.

As long as the plates are anchored properly in the case there isn't much difference between them.

I buy the Duralast brand from the local Atwood's farm supply as they tend to be cheaper than everyone else including Wal-Mart!

Don't let all these brand names take over your mind. There are only 3 main battery mfg'rs in N. America.

Johnson Controls
Exide
East Penn/Deka

They make "blanks" meaning batteries with no outer positive identification. Then re-sell them. Labels are put on.

I recently put Sears Die-Hard Platinum batteries in my Dodge dually. They are actually relabeled Odyssey batteries which have an excellent reputation, but cheaper than Odyssey. Wish I woiuld have known about new Die-Hard Platinums before I got an Odyssey for the race car.

Very true but very misleading.
There's nothing wrong with a Walmart battery. I use them without hesitation in some applications.
If I want to really step up to a battery with a TON of cranking power, you have to look elsewhere.
EVERYBODY has available a decent standard battery at a decent price. If you want a battery with some real lead in it, go to the ATM first and go to a place that offers choices. Real choices.
