Just like the title says, does anyone know of a good hood spring for 70-72 a-bodies that are low tension for use with fibreglass bolt on hoods? Im looking for something affordable and something that will support the hood properly and not be too stiff/soft.

Any help is appreciated

I thought E and B body hood springs are external under the actual hood hinge? or am I wrong?

The a-body ones are the circular coil behind the fender

There is a guy who sells them every month in the A-Body Parts for sale section.

Not sure what they cost brand new, or if they're even available new...but I paid $4 for the pair at the junkyard. Worked perfectly on my 68 Barracuda with a Glasstek Super Stock hood

You are corect sir! The A's had coiled ones like a watch.

AAR Fiberglass has a source (I forgot his name) from Arkansas that reworks stock springs pretty cheap. I had them done and they work fine.

Get a hold of "atomicdog" here on the board his email is: happee_feelings@yahoo.com. He has what you need for sale in the classifieds right now and is VERY good to deal with. That is where I got mine from and would again.

to be honest, im more scared to remove them off something than I am to install them...something about being a klutz like I am working with something under tension scares me

well I stopped by the junkyard today...there were no K cars or daytonas, but there were some late model dakotas that I popped a set of springs off of. The hoods seemed fairly light, just wondering if the springs are around the right size? thinking of calling the dealer and seeing if they know if the part number for the dakota is the same as the daytonas/k cars...either way they seemed fairly low tension

snapped a pic...do these look about right in size atleast?

well I called the dealer and sure enough they tell me that hood springs are discontinued for a dodge daytona, and that they cant cross reference the spring with anything else because they don't sell springs alone, just hood hinges

I know the tension of the springs is whats different, but do mine look anything like the correct springs for an a-body atleast in terms of size?

The A body factory spring is .750" wide the G body spring is .500" wide. Here is a pic of both.
