First, all brake fluid is synthetic. DOT 5 is silicone-based, and the others are glycol-based. I have switched my vehicles to DOT 5 by sucking as much out of the MC as I can, filling with DOT 5, and then bleeding until I see purple at each wheel. No problems whatsoever.
If anyone doubts compatibility, think of the assy grease that comes with wheel cyl kits, etc. It is silicone grease, and seems to do just fine in a glycol-filled system.
It's Swifty! Swifty, you toad sucker!

I've done this many times, get all of the old stuff out of the M/C as you can and bleed until you see purple! NEVER had any issues in over 20 years and numerous cars!
