I've been having a on going problem with my coronet. If I run it up to 5K and lift my foot I get a heck of a vibration right next to me at about the end of the tranny my slip yoke is sticking off of the tailshaft about 2.5 inches. Put another driveshaft in that measured the sme as my old one and it still does it

2 1/2 inches seems pretty far. Are you sure you have the right shaft for your combination?

More info on your combination would help too

IMO, If it vibrates when you lift/decelerate, it is pinion angle. The pinion is too far down. Do the front segments of your leaf springs have the straps around them or are they clamped? Might want to make sure they are strapped/clamped. Then work on pinion angle.

I'm not sure if I have the right shaft. The previous owner was the type that had no right owning a old car and Ijust keep finding one thing after the other. As for pinion angle I do have s/s springs on and they are clamped but I have no shims in place.

hmmmm, I have a vibration too. more of a HUMMMM HUMMMM HUMMMM while I cruise that kinda goes away when I accelerate. Same thing only different (pinion too far up maybe?)

Had the same problem a few years back with a 71 Demon; wrong length driveshaft as the yoke was sticking out too far. Measured and made up a new shaft with the correct dimensions and the vibration diasappeared.

Yeah I think that's the route I'm gonna go. It just seems like the slip yoke is sticking out way to far.

quick way to check is put the rear axle up on jackstands, unbolt the Dshaft from the yoke, shove it all the way in the trans. If Ujoint is more than an inch away from seating in the pinion yoke, it is too short.
