I'm on the fence about fixing or replacing the 71 go wing on my car. It looks like somebody tried to pull it off the car and cracked the bottom of the drivers side end, see pic. Would it be best to cut and V the crack and then fill it? Would the best filler be grille plastic shavings mixed with acetone, like for repairing grilles? I'd think that by cutting and V'ing the crack would help to get it back to its original shape, correct? Any help would be appreciated.

I would think a fiber glass repair, strong enough to work on Vette's etc, and flexes just enough because the wing does flex slightly when driving.

The original material is niether a thermoplastic resin or a fiberglass. Originals were created using a process known as "RIM" (Reation Injection Molding). Two part reactive plastic materials with fiber fillers are blended under heat and pressure which cures and forms the parts in a few seconds. Once the blended materials are cured they basically become a new material with unique properties, you can't use the Acetone/ABS grille material filler to fix cracks. Fiberglass repairs work ok sometimes but you should grind away all the bad areas and create and blend the new glass repair area. You might want to consider just shelving that one and buy a new reproduction, they are VERY accurate and pretty reasonable.

I'll try the fiberglass repair first. Worse comes to worse I still get a cool wall hanger out of it. But fixing it will save me about $200. Regardless First Place Auto will still be getting $3-500 from my wallet..

What will happen if u open it a little and place a piece of wood under and across it like repairing a hole in Sheetrock? screw it in on the ends to hold in place and then fiberglass it and reinstall that bracket screwed in to the new area?

B4 you repair the crack, drill a small hole in front of each crack. This will stop the crack from continuing once it hits the hole. Then fill continue with your repair.

I fibreglassed mine 7 years ago and it was fairly heavily cracked. It has held together ....ok.. but it is starting to crack again. This time though I might try some structural adhesive from fusor as I think it will hold better than the glass- time will tell I guess.

I'm with the Fusor comment, knowing how many different products they have, I'm sure they have one that will work.

Big thing is not only do you want to v the crack and fill, but you need something on the inside to hold it together and it doesn't look like theres alot of room. I use the fiberglass backing that looks like a screen on bumper repairs and it works great... however bumpers are alot roomier.
