I have put them in a lathe and resurfaced them and run them with no problems, but if it is a stock drum good ones can be picked up so cheap it is not really worth the time.

Get an aftermarket steel or aluminum drum, safer anyway.

A billet drum is very nice and I had 1 in my unit BUT if you know how to treat a 727 and know what to do when and what not to do a stock drum will work fine.

Well if its an aluminum drum the first thing is that is the wrong band to use. Should use a band with no groves with an aluminum drum. I would try and have it machined and see how much you have to take off to clean it up.

This an aluminum front drum
I can't be sure how deep the grooves are, but resurfacing it sounds like a good solution. Also, do yourself a favor and don't run the riveted band with the grooves in the lining. For an aluminum drum, I like the lining with no grooves (wears more evenly on the drum) and a solid backing (not the flex band). ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)

Just think of all those ridges and grooves as more surface area ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)
