Picked up a 69 440 with nothing on the pan rail (no stampings). Is there another way to determine it's a warranty block? Cast date is 11-11-68 Pad is E440 Hp. Thanks.

Are there any other stamped in letters or numbers on the upper pad? Is there a metal tag rivoted to the block anyplace? How about just a leftover brass rivot?

Also look carefully for the number near the pad but in the surrounding cast iron, sometimes they missed the pad.

I have a warranty 340 block in my Cuda. There are no stampings and no tags.

Thanks for the reply. Yes there is a rivet looking thing above the center freeze plug on one of the ribs. No tag though. However I don't think it's brass. Sanded off some paint and it looks like steel? I tried posting a pic but it's too large. Oh and on the upper pad it looks like an upside down 2 or 5 stamped also. Thanks.

The other thing you need to determine a warranty block is offical dealer paperwork PROVING WARRANTY repalcement.

In case you didn't know ANYONE could waltz right up to the parts counter and BUY any part of an engine assembly INCLUDING the block , short block assembly or long block assembly ....

Yep!

The lack of a VIN and the rivot in the side of the block are a good indicators that the engine you found was never installed in a production line vehicle, but was rather sold as an over the counter peice OR used as a Service/Warranty Replacment and was at least a complete short block engine (or possibly a complete long block) which was assembled during the 1969 model year and was built to HP specifications.
