1995 ram 1500, 2wd, 5.9 auto, 73,000 miles, maintained well. If I pull on the fan blades there is movement in the pully that attaches to the water pump; best guess .040. Is this an indication of water pump failurer? The serpenteine belt is shiney along it's edge?? Or. how do you know if water pump is close to failurer? Truck runs fine.

Yeah, I would replace it. Also check the clutch for the fan at the same time.

I would replace it. Instead of waiting for it to almost fall off like I did. Mike

replace it

the fan will be left hand thred also

take out the 6 or 7 bolts that hold the alum bracket that mounts the a/c and alt, lift it and swing it over out of the way

then r&r the water pump, check the thermo housing they are good for rusting away on the neck

you can get at the sensors and heater hose while you are there

remember to put sealer and Tighten the heater hose nipple that goes in the water pump, and grease the o ring on the other heater pipe that goes in the pump

IMO if you got it down that far might as well r&r the t chain and front seal,sb are hard on the chain and it will have slop in it

rock the fan at the bearing to see if the clutch has slop and replace as needed

have fun and good luck
