The Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags is a great place to have fun with your car, to show what it can do, to run your best and hang out with other motor heads. But it is NOT a good place to be if you want to compare your Mopar against a GM. The rules are stacked against the Mopars. Some examples: Mopars came stock from the factory with better, high performance ignition systems. The PSMCDR allows ignition upgrades to everyone, thus negating the Mopars advantage. Mopars came stock from the factory with exhaust H pipes. The PSMCDR allows H pipes for everyone, thus negating the Mopars advantage. The PSMCDR allows COPO Chevies, L88 Chevies, Yenko Chevies, the aluminum engined ZL1 Camaros, but they will not allow the Mopar equivilants such as the 64 Dodge Hemi. Plus there is not any real, consistant tech to see if the cars are even legal. So comparing against other cars where it is unknown how far they are from "pure stock" proves nothing.

Thank you Joel - thats the answer I was looking for . In fact, I had an argument with some clown on one of the Vids about the SS Darts - somehow they reckon the SS Dart isn't a "mass produced" car! So I say "what? did the stork lay them? " Or were they assembled in a Factory? ....Next thing...he's claiming the T Bolt was faster than the SS Darts...... What an IDIOT!! The T Bolt ran AFX, the SS Darts were SS! Typical Chev owner.

But Mopar never made the 68 SS cars street legal. Ron
Is that the case?
I thought they were sold without warranty, but could be street licenced?

SS darts and barracudas were not street legal. Just as the new Challeneger drag pack car...

Personally, I don't know about the street legality of the 68 SS mopars, but I do know that the 64 Hemi Mopars were street legal and purchased for use on the street, and that is well documented. Also I know for a fact that when Mel Parker bought the 67 RO23 Superstock Belvedere that I now own, he and his dad steet drove it for 6 months before he set it up for race-only. He even brought it back to the dealer and had a heater installed! As far as allowing the 68 SS mopars into the PSMCDR, I don't know if that is such a great idea. I think the problem is that they allowed GM's race cars such as the L88 and the ZL1 in. Now that they are out there, it would be too hard to take it away. They should at least just allow the 64 Hemis. What is so interesting about the PSMCDR, and about F.A.S.T., is that unlike all other forms of drag racing, there is NO attempt by the rules makers to equalize the cars. In all other racing organizations, when one combination dominates, it gets penalized. Then you get all these GM lovin' fans and bench racers claiming that small block Chevies are better than Hemis because they won some races in early Pro-stock. What they don't realize or consider is that the Hemi got burdened with a huge weight penalty by the NHRA to slow it down. None of that happens in the PSMCDR or in FAST. The best cars with the best efforts of the owners and the best drivers will rise to the top. The way it ought to be.

They have smallblock heads that will outflow a B1 with ease.
GM has hoards of better options for parts than mopar but i think that one's a stretch
Ok, Ill take out the "with ease" part. But check out the R07's and the like. Killer stuff.

Most of the Gm cars are claiming to be running 4.57 gears on 27 inch tires. They must me revving 7000 plus.Sounds like the word pure is being abused.Chevys just cheat better.

L88's were made in 68 and 69 too. Production was quite a bit higher in both years. I have to agree with the Chevy guys about the Package Darts and Barracudas and the WO and RO 64 and 65 cars. But the 64 Dodge & Plymouth hemi street cars that were built should clearly make those cars legal for Pure Stock competition. The same for the 67 RO, WO, cars there was very little difference in those cars and any other street Hemi.

Heck they built more 68 SS Hemi Darts and Cuda's (about 150) then GM built of the ZL1's which was about 69 I believe.
Also, IIRC only 20 some L88 engines where placed into Vettes in 67.
L88 is not a ZL1. L88 was an iron block, ZL1 was all alloy.
My point is about production #s - less ZL1s made than the HURST SS cars - yet the MOPARS are banned...since when were they not a production car?

I am thinking the reason I heard for the 64 Hemi cars was that they had factory headers. Never have heard the reasoning on the 67 RO & WO cars. The 64 cars that I am refering to are not SS cars they were street cars. I have always heard that they were ordered Max Wedge cars and became Hemi cars when they made the switch to the Hemi. There are still several around and all that I have seen are hard tops not post cars. They had the big AFB's on them not the holleys. http://www.carcraft.com/featuredvehicles...do/viewall.html
