I've got on a "I want a Hemi" kick recently and it's got me thinking...How tough are the stock parts in these things under boost? I was thinking maybe a 354 because I can get a deal on one local I think. I know it would need pistons but will the rods and crank live to the 500hp level? Seems that parts for these engine are cheaper than I thought, I cant afford a 426 and I can't afford the $900 carb intake for a 3g hemi so I'm at the early engine. I was thinking a MP70 single turbo with no I/C and meth injection. Looking for a solid 500hp on pump gas. Am I crazy?
First, you may get a deal on a 354 Hemi, but when you realize how many items you need to purchase to street rod it, your going to be very surprised. Been there, built a couple of them. They are very stout engines, but expensive to build for little hp. The heads flow about what a 360 flows unless you move up to a set of Hot Heads for $3300
Second, the best deal on a hemi is/are the 3G hemis...At only 500hp, no boost is needed. My 408 is over 500...
You just can't find a better price on a fully built Hemi: http://www.indyheads.com/oldschool.html
