I just bought a very original '69 Swinger 340 4-spd that came equipped with the 3.91 sure grip. The fender tag is not coded A31, was this just an oversight when the tag was stamped or just the way it was at Hamtramck in '69? The only guess I have is since there was no cooling system upgrade on the A-body, it wasn't considered an axle package, maybe? The two broadcast sheets and the original order form and invoice state it was ordered with the 3.91 gear set. Sheet code D57/D91.

Correct, the '69 a-bodies didn't have an axle "package" - so the b'cast or window sticker is needed to determine the original axle ratio.
I believe - if you ordered the "sure-grip" for ~ $42, the 3.55s or 3.91s were "no-charge".
Correct.
3.55 and 3.91 were optional and NC with a Sure Grip. 3.91's were not available if the vehicle had AC.

Dan, that is what I figured. I remember BOS had an identically equipped car to mine and IIRC, it had A31 on the tag (not the SPD;-)).
Edit: I found the Dart on their site in the sold car section and the tag is probably a repop:o I would post a pic, however the right click is disabled.
Post a link to the auction , repop tag is easy to spot .

Said car was sold. Too bad for someone.

Wow, not even CLOSE to what a 69 Dart tag looks like! In my 33 years of checking those tags I have never seen A31 A46 J54 and M85 on ANY tag! A quick edit: I have several tags with A42 on them, which was the Spring Special and it included the bumper guards. I have quite a few tags and none of them have the M85, though I believe some probably did.

"My car didn't come with a tag. Where can I get a new one? I'll never try and fool anyone with a fake tag. I'll be honest about it. Everyone will know it's remade."

Cool! First time I have seen this, and I have looked at hundreds of 69 Dart tags. Most of the cars built late have different stuff on the tags than I have seen on earlier tags, this might be one of them. I have actually seen a 69 Swinger with factory buckets, fender turn signals, rocker mouldings, and a few other options you usually see on GTS's. They were on the fender tag, I think they were trying to get rid of inventory by then. The A46 package consisted of: upper door frame mouldings drip rail mouldings grille surround mouldings wheel lip mouldings deck lid lower mouldings What mouldings are on your car? Since it has M21 it must have 2 sets of drip rail mouldings on top of each other?

Here is the original tag to my 340 4-spd 3.91 Swinger. It does have A46 on it Jim.
I just went and looked at the tag on my dart , no A31 on it , Plus it wasn't looking how I expected , but the engine compartment had been repainted once .
There is no A31 on my original broadcast sheet , just D57 and D91
