Kinda thinking again...Dangerous,isn't it? Planning on glass bumpers from Sled City for my 64..Also homemade aluminum bumper brackets..Weight loss should equal a better e.t...Also want to get a quality coil and cap from Gorski to replace the autozone cap and Accel coil...I don't think that will hurt any. The MP electronic dizzy seems to work just fine. No sense replacing that! I like the air pan thread, but I don't think I have enough room under the hood!! Hope some of this stuff helps me...Anyone else have some good tips? Ted

The air pan would help with just the cooler air... there is always a way... BUT I dont like the drop pans, it makes too many turns for the air... lets face it... air like to travel in a straight line. Also if you put a bunch of stickers/decals on the car you can pick up at least a 100 hp... if you believe what each product can produce

Ted, how steady is the timing? Getting rid of any spark scatter may offer some Hp. Also on the air pan, I use a moroso dropped aircleaner base pop riveted to my airpan and sealed with silicon. Decided on that after working with a 383 that we tried a flat pan on, gained significant power with a better entry system. If you have a flush machined carb top (choke towers cut off)there is a cast piece that can be mounted to round out the air entry, forget who makes them. Have you done a full graph on the front end for Bump steer? Needs to be with in 1/8 total top to bottom. Rear axle alignment? To be sure the rears are parallel. How are the brakes? Nice and lose?

Ted I'm not sure what intake manifold you are using but you may want to do so research on it. I was really shocked after flowing a couple on the bench this year to find out how restrictive some are. I ported a set of chevy dart platinum heads this summer and when we bolted his intake on our numbers dropped from 308cfm-268cfm. After some intake work we were at 300. After seeing that I checked my small block super victor and W2 victor. I will never bolt another intake on an engine out of the box again. The best way to have it checked is with it bolted to your heads, and ask for before and after numbers. Post your head and intake combo and maybe one of our members checked one out.

On the aircleaner lid, mine is a dropped base, so the flat pan that is attached is lower than the carb aircleaner flange. If you want to do this, you can gain a 1/2 inch of clearance by making up spacers to go between the K frame and the frame rails. I used some half inch aluminum plate, cut them roughly 2 inch square, drilled the 3/4 hole for the bolt and wulla! The motor got lower by 1/2 inch. this whole setup would be better than only having an inch clearance. Considering how tight things are now, there might be some good gains there. Carbs just don't like to be crowded up top.

One more thing you can try. If you believe you are still too tight hood scoop to carb, then loosen the hood hinges and raise the back of the hood as far as you can and see (reseal the airpan!) if it helps.

Snow Performance Meth/Water injection. $250 converts 93 into 114. http://www.snowperformance.net/I can tell when mines on for sure. Buddy claims a 427 3x2 veet picked up almost 60hp on the dyno. Here's the Hemi chart.

Hey Ted The thing i did that had the most surprising effect on ET( ALMOST A FULL TENTH) was going from a stock style water pump to an electric unit. My brother made this same swap right before i did with the same result.Helps between rounds at the track as well. REAL good upgrade that definately is seen on an ET slip.In conjunction with electric fan over a stock unit, you will see even a hair more if you still have a stock fan setup. Doubt the bumpers and brackets will net much if anything.Been there done that. Race front brakes didnt see on Et slip, going to fiberglass bumpers, didnt see on ET slip, big dollar fuel pump upgrade, didnt see on ET slip, lighter driveshaft, didnt see on ET slip, aluminum drum and roller bearings in transmission, didnt see on ET slip ...electric water pump, saw immediately and dramatically on ET slip.

There can be a down side to some of these mods. Had a race last month in threatening weather. We normally have 30 minutes between rounds. It looked like rain was on the way, so the track steward was polling the drivers lined up for the first round to see if anyone had objections to 15 minutes between rounds. The guy in front of me had a kitten! Claimed he couldn't get his car cooled down in that length of time cause he had to hook up his charger to run his electric pump and recharge his battery. He obviously didn't have enough pump or enough alternator to go more than one round without needing a 1/2 hour break to "replenish". He did have a fast car though - for one round . Point is: be careful not to sacrifice too much on the reliability side for an extra tenth or so.

How did that affect your alignment - not just the caster/camber, but also the bump stop heights, bumpsteer and turn in angles?

Ted do you use an alt ? If you do you could put a switch in the field circuit and turn it off making a pass. Might get a half a tenth. Ron
