I bought my 1971 'Cuda back in the mid 80s. Is there anyway to check who the original owner was or how many owners there might have been? This may be a dunb question but I have just never tried any kind of research like this before.

I was in high school at the time and did not remember the name of the guy that I bought the car from one hour after I bought it.

Not sure how far back, but it seems to me they can only check cars with 17 digits VINs. My 1980 Datsun 200SX was 12 digits and uncheckable. The 1986 Toyota Supra was 17 digits and checkable. I believe 17 digit VINs became the norm in 1984, but not sure.
