Something has been bothering me since the Halloween Classic at Norwalk this year and I would like to see how you fill about this subject. I am sure most of us have enjoyed a few drinks after a night of racing. I am sure alcohol at some blood level would still be present but unless you were drinking in the morning or during time trials the level would be low. What bothers me is the number of people that are smoking grass not only the night before but also during eliminations. They say it relaxes them and makes them a better racer. I know its been done for years but I really opened my eyes to it this year. If someone wrecked into you and you know they were high would you demand blood tests be taken or would you just eat the loss and move on? I am not a person that goes looking for a reason to sue someone and this has not happened to me but I am trying to see how you fill about this.

I would not knowingly run beside any person who was under the influence of drugs/alcohol(including prescription painkillers). Why take the chance??
I have purposely let people run solo on T&T because of this.

Despite what "some people" say or believe, your reflex's are no where near as sharp as they are when sober.
I recall a test where Air Force Fighter pilots were tested in a simulator, and test afterwords while high on marijuana.
IIRC it actually took weeks (plural) for there normal scores to return to normal.
Around here its not weed or pot, its pain pills (Oxycontin) or Hill-Billy Heroin.

Even as a spectator, I've never understood having a beer, let alone smoking some pot. It just doesn't seem to be the place for that. Running a car, even less so. I like my car enough, and take the matter seriously enough, that I won't even pair up with a car whose craftsmanship looks suspicious, and there are a few of those at the local track that look like the guy was stoned when he built it! No partying the night before or for the tow home, either. I've got nothing against the stuff at the proper time, and I grew up (so to speak) during the '60s, so I'm no virgin, but if something were to happen to my stuff because someone else isn't sober and on top of things, he's gonna have a very bad day.

I know it occurs but when you sign the paper when
you enter the track you eliminate the track(in theory)
but you also take the responsibility of your own car
but I dont know about suing anyone... I sure would
be pissed if the person was drunk or high... (I might
end up in jail myself)

Wow John, I wish you would have said something to me while we were talking. That kind of crap needs to stop! I would have liked to know who not to stage next to. I personally don't care what people do in their own home, on their time. But don't endanger me and my family and freinds. I personally think they should enforce the rules a little better than they do at all the tracks.
Don't ask me how I feel about hard drugs!

I have gotten all over a racer for wanting to run a known broke car just to make another pass, not a round win, just a pass. Makes alot of sense to risk your car as well as your life as well as the guy's next to you. He thought about it and loaded up.

would you want to race next to Jeremy Mayfield?

if you see anyone smokin dope at the track and you know they are about to run a race, then it's your moral duty to report them.

how would you sleep at night if you knew someone was toking up before hitting the staging lanes, then something in their car broke after the yellows turned green, and they hurt or killed the driver in the other lane?

would you just brush it off and say that the injuries/death was just because of the accident, and if "x" didn't break/go wrong, etc. then everything would have been fine? or would you sit there and wonder, if the driver had been sober, would the crash have been avoided? or turned out differently had the driver been sober?

if someone wants to smoke dope, shoot crack, pop pills, whatever, I could care less. but the minute it could possibly impact me, or some other innocent person, then I have an issue with it.

I have held back in the burnout box just because a
certain car would NORMALLY get WAY out of shape and
ended up in the other lane... no clue to what the
problem was(I didnt care) weather he was drinking
or on something but I didnt want to run next to him
but I know he liked to party..... anytime

Pretty much looks like the party folks aren't going to speak up here (smart on their part) and the rest of us agree, just a matter of what to do when a guy sees it. Definitely something I would report. Talk to track officials, and if they balk, let them know that now they are legally at risk, because they know.

Well I don't do drugs , unless a Goody Powder is listed as Bad. I do have to admit I have made a few morning passes with a terrible hangover though. " Thank God for the 10:00 rule on sundays.

Honestly I would hate to be beside anybody under the influence of any drug at the track. Way too much can go wrong in close quarters.

I know a guy (SuperBeeLee) who likes to get a BUZZ-ON(a couple of beers) before and during racing. He is not drunk or tipsey. Is he good ? ... He hit a Central MI payday for something like 12k$ !

His worst package during elims was something like a 008.

Like it or not, drugs are illegal in most states,I would treat any incident that involved drugs or alcohol the same way it is anywhere else.Look at how many people are incarerated each year for accidents,on the highways, work place and other venues. To put one's self or others at risk is just plain stupid.

So that makes it ok?

I suppose he tows his rig home the same way. Too big of risk in my opinion.

I am getting the kind of responses that I expected. Trust me when I say this its worse than you would ever realize. Its a problem everywhere and if you don't think it is you are being as close minded as I was. It bothers the crap out of me knowing my hands are tied and would have some hard decisions to make. NHRA and IHRA officials would have to police this to become effective.

I agree, it's difficult to enforce. are tracks going to start having pee tests on racers before TnT sessions or "fright night street fights"?

it's scary to think about the kind of idiots who show up to those events and are habitual drug users, and possibly under the influence while at the track.

All you guys have valid points and very good responces to the matter. I would not want any driver under the influence of anything next to me in the staging lanes. But alcohol is Leagal to consume. So is Medical MaryJane. If you are going to police this matter everytime your at an event, You might want to join the movment to get NHRA to start to inforce local goverment laws.

Wait I got an Idea!!!! Have a cop at every event in the staging lanes giving you a close look. I think it's called probable cause.. To invade your Fun Time.

I'm sure all of Moparts members feel the same as I do since I don't drink/smoke/pop pills,in the staging lanes.
