What are the correct seat belts for an early built 71 Demon with bucket seats? I have seen some with the retractors and some with out?

My '71 Duster came with re-tractors. I can't think of any cars (Dusters, Demons) that don't have them. But then I don't get out much!

ALL the A bodies from 70 and later had retractors, but only the '74-76 had 3 point seat belts that were retractable. The pre-74 cars only had retractable LAP belts.

Hmmmm.... I guess it may matter as to where the cars were built?
I had 70 and 71 Dusters bought in a package deal, both totally worn out. Both had original interiors with retractable lap belts. I sold the 70 a few years back, but the 71 remains. I'd have to look at the VIN to find out where it was built.

I have seen both the retractable which my car has with the L4X9 split bench, folding arm rest, and others have the non-retract lap belt that you pull the belt tight to adjust.

I have worked on a 71 Demon with shorter retractors (only like 1") than other 71's, anyone else find this issue?

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

I think the early production cars with buckets had the retractor type. 70 left overs? My 68 Hemi Charger was a very early car and it had 67 chrome seat belts.

i did a bit of research a year or so ago and it could have came both ways non retractor or short retractor, the service manual is no help and just has generic pics of belt layout, there was a specific retractor for the bucket seat that was shorter than the bench style, it looks exactly like the bench style and the same amount of belt pulls out from both but its about half the length, i found a pair for my demon after looking a long long time.

Thanks for the pics. I seem to have a pair of bench retractors and a couple sets of the later style. My car has the early seat backs so I guess I need to find a set of early bucket retractors. My VIN is LM29H1B150888 built in Sept. of 70.

My car is a January 71 with bucket seats and no retractors. How do you tell the plant from the VIN or do you have to get it from the build sheet?

7th digit on my 71 Duster is a "B".
