I have read that the thumpr cams from comp are all bark and no bite, and I have also read that the cams are actually a good design with very good power characteristics. Can anyone weigh in on these cams?

I like the sound but that is NOT how I pick a cam. Just wondering if anyone has experience with these in a mild big block.

We built a stock motorhome 440 with a thumpr cam, 9:1 compression and a rpm intake using an 800 edelbrock carb for a Derby car....it made 390HP and 470TQ. And it sounded good doing it.

We didn't bore it or anything, just ran the old pistons, decked the block .020, the heads about .020, steel shim gasket, used stock rockers, old springs and everything. I did use a double roller timing set and advanced the cam. It was in at 101 intake lca.
